A petition has been filed by Inam-ul-Rahiem, advocate challenging the full term extension granted to the army chief Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani which would enable him to hold the office even beyond the age of superannuation. The petitioner has questioned:-
- Whether any provision of law exists under which any authority can award another extension of complete tenure to the Army Chief or anybody else ?
- Whether as per Army Seniority List, Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, approaching the age of 60 on 20th April 2012, the age of superannuation, even prescribed for the civilian government employees may be entitled to be an exception above law of the land?
The petition makes me wonder should there not be an age of superannuation fixed for the politicians as well? Though most of them start showing signs of senility much before attaining the age of 60 – the maximum age limit for most civil servants..
