Why not to re-open the cases of Liaquat and Gen Zia

At this point of time of time when President Asif Ali Zardari exercising his inborn prerogative has sent a reference to Supreme Court of Pakistan asking the court to re-examine the whole case all over again about the death of Zulfiaqr Ali Bhutto, I opine that he should also send references to SC to do the same exercise for other two deaths also namely Liaquat Ali Khan, Prime Minister who had been gunned down and Gen Muhammad Ziaul Haq, President who died in a plane carsh to prove that he has nothing else in his mind but to let the people what is the whole truth.

Before going into further details of the reference, it is quite but natural on my part to ask my worthy President as to who approached or sounded him from within the country or overseas to take it up such a volatile issue at this point of time? What necessitated and forced him to dig out ZAB case after the passage of some long years? Why didn’t Zardari think of ZAK at the time when he had taken the oath of President of Pakistan or for that matter even after a year or so if not earlier? How come, after being in the chair for almost three years, he now took cognizance of the killing of ZAK? What is he aiming at or will ZAK come back to life again, to be honest?

Needless to mention, the office of presidency very much demands complete impartiality under all circumstances without even the slightest favoritism and nepotism, rather on the contra, he should think and act quite judiciously without any fear or favor. In all practical and official sense he is the President of the country and not that of any political party even including PPP.  In case if he as President of Pakistan maintains that ZAB had been wrongly killed then the question is that the death of other two national leaders is also disputed and therefore the principle of equity and justice demands of him to initiate the same action for them too. Needless to mention, death is death, and all must be treated alike and one cannot and should not be preferred over others whatsoever. Moreover, not only that all the three under the reference did not die natural deaths but also there had been lot of cribbing about their deaths and hence it is very much c that called for that SC should probe all the three deaths rather than just one death.

With my honest and solemn prayers

Sincere Iqbal Hadi Zaidi / Kuwait
