Israel Opposes Palestine State through UN

-DR. ABDUL RUFF

________

Israel that occupies bulk of Palestinian territories directly as well as through terror blockades, opposes establishment of Palestine state on Palestinian lands. The Zionist position has not changed over years of "talks". But fascist Israel has killed thousands of Palestinians in a sustained manner .

Upset with latest move by the Palestinians to approach the UN to gain international recognition for statehood at the UN General Assembly session in September, Israel informed the 15 members of the UNSC last week, as well as other prominent European Union countries, that if the Palestinian Authority persists in its efforts to gain recognition as a state within the 1967 borders, Israel would respond with a series of unilateral steps of its own.

Many European diplomats as well leaders of the world are positive about the establishment of much delayed Palestine state and say that in light of the current deadlock in negotiations, international recognition of Palestinian statehood appeared unavoidable in September. Israel pursues its illegal pressure tactics to make the European nations anti-Palestine and continue to promote Zionist interests but their stand to support the Palestinian cause has derailed all Zionist strategies in the region. .

Israel is keen to prolong the occupation and massacres in Palestine by continuing with “talks” in Jewish conditions and also terror attacks simultaneously. Tel-Aviv threatens to unleash terror in Palestine if the General Assembly grants recognition. Ideas have been floated on the right wing of the Israeli political spectrum, suggesting that Israel, like America might be doing in NATO occupied Muslim nations, might apply Israeli law to the West Bank or annex major settlement blocs to Israel. Israelis are deadly worried that the Palestinian legal efforts for the support for international recognition, by most of the members of the European Union, has encouraged the Palestinians to forgo the bogus negotiations with an arrogant Zionist regime Israel and to move more quickly toward proper recognition at the UN of Palestinian statehood.

Israel continues to play dirty terror politics. In Ramallah, Palestinian (Fatah) President Mahmoud Abbas, who shows inclination even to quit his position of PLO chief in favor of a united Palestine state,  met with a prominent Israeli leader former Knesset member Yossi Beilin and told him that the Palestinian Authority would not engage in further negotiations with Israel after September. It would be possible to engage in three months of talks in an effort to achieve progress before September, but Netanyahu would have to suspend construction of the illegal settlements proliferation in West Bank.

Palestinian leaders reiterate that if credible, result oriented negotiations are resumed before September and make progress, the Palestinians would be prepared to defer efforts to gain UN recognition of statehood.

All leaders in Israel are hawkish playing roles according to the dictates of the president who is also a hawkish former terror PM. Current PM Netanyahu –  second term - is as much a terror fanatic as his predecessor were. There are currently no contacts between representatives of Netanyahu and Abbas's advisers, and Netanyahu appears to have backtracked on his intention to deliver a major policy speech to jump-start the peace process.

September is almost fixed for the crucial decision of creation of an independent Palestine. Palestinian (Fatah) PM Salam Fayyad's program of establishing institutions for a future Palestinian state is due to be wrapped up this coming September. Israel and the Palestinians had agreed that the talks they undertook last September 2 in Washington would last for about a year. Last September, US President B. Obama told the General Assembly that he wished to see a Palestinian state become a member of the UN within a year, though he has conveniently forgotten all about it and is only bothered about his reelection to White House for another term and he counts on the powerful Jewish lobbies in USA for support and more votes.

Politicians in Israel are known for their double-speaks, threats and terror gimmicks, and Israel seems to be incapable of openly supporting the genuine cause of Palestine. Even if they come forward to resume the “talks” they also know how to stall any positive result. Under the prevailing circumstance only UN is better placed to grant the statehood to besieged Palestinians and then help them defend the sovereignty of Palestine state as and when it is created! Israel can support that effort I n stead continuing with bogus talks and terror attacks on the defenseless Palestinians.

Palestinian leaders from both Hamas and Fatah must now concentrate on the UN route for statehood, in stead of depending on fictitious Israeli route according to the Zionist fanaticism and convenience. Arab League must also use its western "connections" to push for the UN resolution on Palestine state.

Time is indeed running out!
