“Muharram its importance & the starting month of Islamic calendar”.OR

Muharram is the month during which the blood conquered the sword”.

Muharram, the first month of Islamic or Hijri Calendar, Muharram is one of the four months declared sacred in the Holy Qur'an.

The other three months are Rajab, Dhul-Qi'da and Dhul-Hijja.

Muharram brings along with it a feeling of great sadness and sorrow in the heart of every Muslim. It is a month in which we commemorate Imam Hussain's (A.S.) victory in martyrdom, a victory which has permanently preserved the true Islam till the Day of Judgment.

According to the Holy Quran.

"Think not of those who are slain in God's way as dead. Nay, they live, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord." (Chapter, The family of Imran 3:169)

Almighty God has called this a "Momentous Sacrifice" i.e. "Zibhin Aazeem" in Holy Quran, chapter As-Saffat (37:107).

We are all forever indebted to Imam Hussain (A.S.) for his great sacrifice. Let us join together and commemorate this loss and learn from the example of Imam Hussain (A.S.).

In verse 59 of Sura An Nisa, Allah says:

"O you who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger and "Ulil Amr" (Those who are authorized to command) from among you."

The believers always obey Allah, obey His Messenger (saww) and the "Ulil Amr" appointed by Him. It is an open invitation. Because, Laa Ikraaha Fid Deen [There is no compulsion in religion] (Al-Baqarah, 2:56). Those who (in truth) are not believers can do what they want.

When Yazid Laeen became the ruler he threw to the wind the earlier policy of the rulers not to demand "Baya't" (oath of obedience) from the children of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.W), and began to exercise pressure upon Imam Hussain (A.S.) to swear loyalty and acknowledge him as the "Ulil Amr", which the Holy Imam rightly refused. It is another aspect of the whole affair that Yazid was the meanest tyrant of the worst degree, but even if he was an ordinary ruler Imam Hussain (A.S.) could not swear loyalty to him as the "Ulil Amr". So he did not. In the month of Rajab 61 Hijra, he left Medina and went to Mecca. From Mecca, before performing Hajj, he took his family with him, and with some friends and companions, true believers, he began the journey towards Iraq.

A large army of Yazid under the command of Umar Bin Saad surrounded the caravan of Imam Hussain (A.S.) when he reached Naynawah, Karbala, on the 2nd of Muharram in 61 Hijra.

There are several other aspects of human relationship and behavior in the events of Karbala that took place in the 10 days of Muharram, culminating in the Martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S.), and his 72 friends and relatives, which come into sharp focus as we recount every minute, during the religious gatherings, each year, but, above all, the ultimate reason remains the same, the impossibility of taking "oath of loyalty" (Baya't), by an "Ulil Amr", to obey a "non-Ulil Amr".

Some Sayings of the Holy Prophet (saww) with Reference to Imam Husain<a.s>:-

1. Hasan and Husayn are the leaders of the Youths of Paradise.
2. Husayn is from me and I am from Husayn , Allah befriends those who befriend Husayn and He is the enemy of those who bear enmity to him.
3. Whoever wishes to see such a person who lives on earth but whose dignity is honoured by the Heaven dwellers, should see my grandson Husayn.
4. O my son! thy flesh is my flesh and thy blood is my blood, thou art a leader , the son of a leader and the brother of a leader; thou art a spiritual guide, the son of a spiritual guide and the brother of a spiritual guide; thou art an Apostolical Imam , the son of an Apostolical Imam and the brother of an Apostolical Imam; thou art the father of nine Immas, the ninth of whom would be the Oaim (the last infallible spiritual guide).
5. The punishment inflicted on the murderer of Husain(a.s) in Hell would be equal to half of the total punishment to be imposed on the entire sinners of the world.
6. One day the Holy Prophet ascended the pulpit to deliver a sermon to his associates while Imam Husayn and Imam Hasan were sitting before him. When address was over, he put his left hand on Imam Husayn and raising his head towards Heaven, said:"O my lord! I am Muhammad Thy slave and Thy prophet, and these two are the distinguished and pious members of my family who would fortify my cause after me. O my Lord! Gabriel has informed me that son Husayn would be killed. O my Lord! bless my cause in recompense for Husayn's martrydom, make him the leader of the martyrs, be Thou his helper and guardian and do not bless his murderers".

When the Holy Prophet informed Hazrat Fatima(s.a) of the Martyrdom in store for his grandson, she burst into tears and asked,"O my father! when would my son be martyred?" "In such a critical moment," replied the Holy Prophet," When neither I nor you, nor Ali would be alive." This accentuated her grief and she inquired again, "Who then, O my father, would commemorate Husain's <a.s>martyrdom? The Holy Prophet(saww) said, "The men and the women  of my followers, who will befriend my Ahlu l-bayt,<a.s> will mourn for Husain<a.s>, and commemorate his martyrdom each year in every century."

Similarly Imam Ali <a.s> while on his way to Siffin, passed through the desert of Karbala, there he stopped and wept very bitterly. When interrogated regarding the cause of his weeping, he commented that one day he visited the Holy Prophet and found him weeping. when he asked the Apostle of Allah as to what was the reason which made him weep, he replied, "O Ali Gabriel has just been with me and informed me that my son Husain <a.s>would be martyred in Karbala, a place near the bank of the River Euphartes. This moved me so much that I could not help weeping."

Muharram is a month of mourning for Muslims who are the lovers and followers of "Aale Muhammad(saww)" (Ahlul-Bait <AS>). In this month, on the 10th day In 61 Hijra, Imam Hussain bin Ali (A.S.), the grandson of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) and the younger son of Hazrat Ali(A.S) and Fatima (S.A.), together with his family and friends, in all 72 men, were slain on the sands of the desert of Naynawah, Karbala. Since then, each year, the true followers of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.), through grief, sorrow and tears, keep alive the message, cause and purpose of the greatest martyrdom in human history.

No doubt it is a holy and sacred month:

The friends and followers of "Aale Muhammad" hold meetings (Majlis), they had been doing so, for last fourteen hundred years, in the name of Imam Hussain (A.S.), during the months of Muharram (and Safar), particularly in the first 10 days of Muharram, to give new life to the Divine Message of "Laa Ilaaha Illallah

Khwaja Mu inu d-Din Chishti says:" .

As the beloved saint-poet of the Indopak subcontinent, Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti (of Ajmir) had said: "Indeed Hussain (A.S.) is the architect of 'Laa Ilaaha Illallah' both are reciprocally related to each other."   Imam Hussain(AS)gave his head but did not put his hand into the hands of Yazid. Verily,Hussain(AS) is the foundation of la ilaha illa Allah. Husayn is lord and the lord of lords. Husain (AS)himself is Islam and the shield of Islam. Though he gave his head (for Islam) but never pledged Yazid Laeen. Truly Husain is the founder of "There is no Deity except Allah."

Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbla says:

And the philosopher-poet of Pakistan, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal, had said: "Ismaeel was the beginning (first step), Hussain was the ultimate."

Imam Husain (A.S)uprooted despotism forever till the Day of Resurrection. He(A.S) watered the dry garden of freedom with the surging wave of his blood, and indeed he awakened the sleeping Muslim nation. If Imam Husain(A.S) had aimed at acquiring a worldly empire, he would not have travelled the way he did ( from Medina to Karbala). Husain(AS) weltered in blood and dust for the sake of truth. Verily he, therefore, became the bed-rock (foundation) of the Muslim creed; la ilaha illa Allah ( There is no god but Allah).

Imam Khomeini's words on the Islamic month of Muharram:

Muharram is a month in which justice has raised against the injustice and it has proved that as far as the history is concerned, Justice has always been the conqueror.

Muharram is a month which has been revived by the Lord of warriors for the faith and the Muslim martyrs and was freed from the plots of the immoral men of Banni Omayyeh which put Islam in the threshold of decadence.

This is the blood of the Lord of Martyrs (Imam Hussain<a.s>) which can stir the blood of all of the Islamic nations.

Muharram is the month of the great movement of the Lord of the martyrs and also of the God's Saints, who has taught the mankind the way of one's purification and state of being strong, through his raising against the tyrant. He considered sacrifice as the way which would lead to decadence of the tyrant and defeat of any dictators. The point which is the highlight of the Islamic educational affairs for all nations forever.

With the initiation of the month of Muharram, [in fact], the month of bravery and sacrifice started. The month during which the blood conquered the sword.

The month of Muharram the month which is the solid proof of the defeat of the superpowers before the word of righteousness. The month during which the Islamic nation's Imam has taught us the way of campaign against the tyrants of the history.

The martyrdom of the Lord of the martyrs revived the Islamic school of thought.

Refreshing the memory of Ashura (the day on which Imam Hussain (A.S) became martyr, Muharram 10), is a task of high political and religious importance.

Refresh the name of Karbala, and the holy name of the Lord of the martyrs for, through this Islam will remain alive.

Revive this month of Muharram for; it is responsible for all [the blessings] that we have.

The memorial ceremonies held for the commemoration of the Lord of martyrs and the ones who possess free will, is the place where the knowledge defeats ignorance, justice conquers, the priority of trust over traitorousness, must be held as gloriously as possible. And also the red flags of Ashura should be kept flying as a sign of the emergence of the day in which there will be a retaliatory measure on behalf of the oppressed against the tyrant.

Ashura is the national mourning day of the oppressed nation and a day of bravery and the new birth of Islam and the Muslims.

It is the sacrifice of the Lord of the martyrs which has kept Islam alive (for us).

The month of Muharram is the month in which the Yazid like powers and the satanic plots would be defeated.

The martyrdom of Lord of the oppressed and the believers of Quran, the beginning of the eternal life of Islam and the one of the Holy Quran all happened in Muharram.

The Lord of martyrs (AS) created the great movement of the Ashura and saved Islam and justice through sacrifice, devoting his blood and the blood of his family.

The Lord of martyr's immune the religion and Islam through his measure.

Imam Hussain (AS) sacrificed himself along with his children and relatives. After his martyrdom Islam was enforced.

Each year (at the advent of Muharram) Islam turns over a new leaf.

In fact it is on account of Imam Hussain's remembrance, every year, we know who the Holy Prophet (S.A.W.), Ali Ibne Abi Talib (A.S.), Bibi Fatima (S.A.) are, and what were their true substance, style and wisdom.

It is because of Imam Hussain's memory, we call to mind each year the Islam, and it becomes clearly visible from behind the blur of the dust of delusion, thrown into the eyes of Muslims in the name of Muslim rule.

In today changing world when all the enemies of Islam (in the leadership of Yazed of the time Uncle Sam and its illegal terrorist son Israiel along with so called muslims terrorists) are united against Islam also using their Yazedi ideaology allies like so called alqaeada and so called Taliban(as the Fitna-e-Khawareej in history) in Iraq,Afghanistan & in Pakistan especially in KPP & FATA for justification of so called war on terror Which is actually the war against Humanity & True Muhammadi(pbuh) islam.

But yet those who are following real Muhammadi Islam and karbala ideaology like the victory of HizbAllah on Lebanon & Hamas in Palestine against israel by going on the path and idealogy of Karbala is ray of hope for all freedom movements of the world that “If they consider Karbala as ideal then the success and glorious victory is waiting for them”.

Let us pray for the arrival and revolution of the world saviour Imam Mahdi(A.S) for whom the whole world is waiting and who will establish a government of Islam & balance society based on justice throughout the globe by punishing all the involved Yazedis in Karbala of all ages.
