Respectable Lawyers
The Honourable CJP Asif Saeed Khosa addressing the lawyers in Multan
nostalgically reminisced the respect lawyers were shown in the years bygone and
sorrowfully wondered why it was no more there. He being the son of a lawyer and
having been one himself should be able to fathom out the cause for it. I think
Professional Degradation & Avarice of the Black Coats could be summed up as
the reason for such an apathy. The lawyers whose main function is to assist the
court in dispensing judicious justice now seem hell bent upon getting their
accused clients scot free by hook or crook. The smart lawyer with hefty fees
leaving aside all compassion, human feelings and consideration for the wretched
widow or the orphaned children deprived of their only bread earner or have any
fear of Allah not only brings into play all sorts of ruses and legal hair
splitting to get his murderer client off the gallows but also boasts proudly
about his such artistry to beat the law. Aren’t suc! h Lawyers encouraging the
crime by defending the culprits successfully? Would it not curtail the
crime drastically if the lawyers do not take up the brief for the culprits or
stop defending them immediately on becoming aware of their clients’ involvement
in the crime?
Next, Sir, how do you expect the lawyers to be respected when they take the
law in their own hands, manhandle and thrash the session judges, the police
officials, the doctors, the restaurant owners etc. or take out rowdy
processions blocking the roads and traffic, what all is euphemistically being
called “Wukla Gardi”? Has any Bar or any other judicial body taken any
action against such delinquents? On the contrary the ‘Black Coats’ senior
as well as juniors all unite to shield them.
Choon az Ka’ba kufr barkhaizad Kuja manad Musalmani?
