Kashmir is distinguished for its natural and human beauty and charming life style. The beauty of Kashmir was succinctly described as paradise on earth by the Mughal Emperor Jahangir. But, since the partition of the sub-continent, the real story of the paradise on earth is a sad saga of human rights violations, extra-judicial killings and gang rapes. It is a heartbreaking tale of oppression, atrocities, sobs and woes. Kashmiris living in Indian-occupation are depicting misery and anguish. The most melancholic feature of this saga is that Kashmiris have yet to articulate their fundamental rights as populace of this world, which is exercise of right of self-determination to decide their future, which was guaranteed to them by the UN resolutions. The decades old UN resolutions invoke the world’s conscience and attract the universal principle of law that justice delayed is justice denied.

There is plethora of academic work based on empirical findings that highlight unprecedented human rights violations and genocide in Indian-occupied Kashmir. The seven hundred thousand Indian military and paramilitary troops stationed in Kashmir are acting in sheer violation of the United Nations Universal declaration of Human Rights 1948, particularly, in violation of Article 3, which guarantees right to life, liberty and security and; Article 5, which states that no one, shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment and; Article 9, which prohibits arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.  

But why the world’s conscience prefers to remain mum? The answer is writing on the wall that the double standards and commercial convenience are the permanent impediments on the way of their interests. The human rights violations in the occupied territory of Kashmir are the real test for those nations, who claim to be torch bearers of human rights and maintain their positions as champions of democracy. Kashmir is still a bone of contention and a potential nuclear flash point between two nuclear powers, which need an amicable solution in accordance with the UN resolutions. It is sincerely stated that the idea of sleeping over the Kashmir issue is just not a solution acceptable to Kashmiris. It is not a land dispute between neighboring countries. It is a matter of life and death of millions of human beings.  It is the matter of freedom of a nation. The Kashmiris are as good human beings as anyone living in some other part of this world. The Article 1 of the UN universal declaration of Human Rights stipulates that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood”. It has been observed that because of the Article 1 of the United Nations universal declaration of human rights, the official website of the Azad/Independent Government of the State of Jammu & Kashmir led by its worthy Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed calls upon the world’s consciences in following words, “It is incumbent on the international community in general and governing world bodies in particular to intervene and force India to stop shedding innocent Kashmiri blood. The Kashmiris should have the right to decide their fate according to the UN resolutions, which were adopted to resolve the issue. Without any doubt, Kashmir is the jugular vein of Pakistan and it cannot evidently abandon it under any conditions. With both the South Asian neighbors armed with nuclear weapons, another conventional war on Kashmir has the potential to turn into a nuclear exchange that could be disastrous not only for South Asia but for the world at large”.

It is a million dollar question that for how long the world’s conscience will remain aloof from the miseries of Kashmiris, who are being butchered by the Indian military. However, Pakistanis are unequivocally determined to continue rendering their political, moral and diplomatic support to their brothers in faith and flesh.  The Kashmir is a flash point and the menace of the nuclear strike can destroy the fabric of the South Asia. It is incumbent on the world democratic powers to intervene and get the issue resolved in the light of the UN resolutions.” No Justice: No peace” is a universally accepted adage and the lovers of world peace must come forward to avert and avoid any mishap that destroys South Asia.
