Education can be described as the moral, ethical and economic backbone of any society. Lack of literate individuals in a nation means that not only the ethical and moral corruption-in terms of bribery, theft, vandalism, dishonesty and indiscipline-is rampant in society but also that the economy suffers from mismanagement and ineffective use of human capital. I remember watching the visit of King Abdullah to the Jeddah Airport directorate a few years ago on state TV. He was there to review the plans in progress to turn this pitiful airport into a state-of-the-art facility that would welcome guests from the world over. I also seem to recollect that when asked point-blank as to when this project would be completed, the airport director confidently replie Click here to read Full Article

While it is a fact that Pakistan was created in the name of Islam, Pakistan’s leaders didn’t make it into an Islamic state in true sense because of battle between the seculars and Islamists. For all practical purposes, Pakistan has been administered on secular system while Islam has remained in name only. Except for Gen Ziaul Haq, all our leaders were endowed with secular bent of mind. Posted By: Riaz On: 3/Jul/2013 Views:1064 Replies:0
As young officers in the army we were taught that salutes were not to be acknowledged but to be returned. It is a sign of mutual respect for each other. However, I noticed that during the recent visits of the Prime Minister to Quetta and two days later to China some of the air crew of the PM’s special plane stood at attention at the foot of the airstair as per protocol and dutifully saluted him sm Click here to read Full Article

The land of Pharaohs, magic and fantasy appears to be intermingled with in-house fireballs generated conflicts of hopes and expectations. The Generals are becoming restless with Tahrir Square’s shouting matches, crumbling economic affairs, emotional outbursts of the emotionally charged people and their aspirations, domestic strife and people wanting overnight results of their long political strugg Click here to read Full Article

How can PML-N involve Mosque in uplift activities by Dr Ghayur Ayub

In the initial period of Islamic history mosque played a sixfold role. Primarily, it was a center for worship and secondarily it was a focal point for political, judicial, educational, social, and health activities. These activities, were taken away, one by one, as the original Islamic governance of Khulafa-e-Rashideen was converted into Turkic and Iranian style monarchies by Omayyad and Abbasid d Click here to read Full Article
La ikkra fid-deen by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

It is clearly and unambiguously ordained that there is no hardship in practicing deen. La ikkra fid-deen. Somehow I cannot reconcile to it when I see the month of Ramzan falling in the hot months of June & July when the daily fast is 16 to 17 hours long and the mercury touches 50 degrees plus in some parts of the world like Sibi, Jackobabad, Cholistan and Thar deserts, Multan, Bahawalpur and Rahi Click here to read Full Article

Pakistan faces formidable array of challenges, both at external and internal fronts. Internal threats are as daunting and menacing as the external threat. So much so that for the first time in Pakistan’s history, it cannot be discerned with certainty which of the two threats is more dangerous? The Army Chief Gen Kayani has however plainly graded internal threat to the security and integrity of Pak Click here to read Full Article
