Not All is Lost
On Thursday the 25th instant my young niece Dr. Ambreen Arif was awarded a Gold Medal for Medical Sciences for the year 2010 by the Academy of Sciences, Islamabad. Ambreen just got to know of such awards by the Academy in various disciplines from the internet and had submitted papers covering her practical work in the field and a few of her articles published in international journals on creating awareness about liver amongst the rural population. All her colleagues and even some seniors had discouraged her that she was too young to get such an honour and that too without any political influence in these days.
Ambreen has not only made us proud of her achievement but has also made us regain confidence that not everything is lost in Pakistan and merit is still recognised and acknowledged in certain quarters. Thank you The Academy of Sciences and may you live ever so honourably, so dedicatedly and so independently.
