Dear Sir:
Assalamo Alaikum.
We are supposed to have fresh elections every five years in which members of National & Provincial Assemblies are elected directly while President is elected indirectly through the newly elected assemblies. The people of Pakistan have a right like any other democratic country to evaluate the performance of the incumbent Government and then reject or elect the incumbent. Whether direct or indirect the elections must reflect the fresh mandate of people. To do otherwise would be depriving people from their basic right of election. No amendments and no tricky interpretation of law and constitution can deprive people their right of election. No jugglery can be tolerated. As I am standing for the protection of constitution, law and people's rights I have sent a protest letter to the Chief Election Commissioner which is self explanatory. I request all democratic, patriotic and human rights associations to support me on this instance. Getting "Re-elected" from about to expire assemblies means no election at all as these assemblies do not represent the fresh mandate of people for next five years. In India also Presidential Election is held after assemblies' election and no can dare to change it there. If we want to remove Pakistan from sham democracy and Banana state then entire civil society must come to protect the basic human rights which include the right of election. The Election Commission and Courts must also protect the basic human rights as it is in the best interest of the nation.
With Most Cordial Regards,

Letter to Election Commission of Pakistan
September 7, 2007
To, the Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission Of Pakistan Secretariat, Election House, Constitution Avenue G-5/2, Islamabad
Subject: Fresh Electoral College and People's Right of Change of Government.
Dear Chief Election Commissioner: Assalamo Alaikum.
The elections are frequently and periodically held in every democratic country to give the people of that country to bring change in the light of the past performance of the incumbent government. The incumbent assemblies and President are not authorized to infringe upon the rights and privileges of new assemblies nor are they permitted to steel the right of the people to bring about change.
The Attorney General's statement in the Supreme Court that Presidential Elections will be held between 15th September and October 15th 2007 is very disturbing as it amounts to snatching away the right of people to bring about any change. Holding of Presidential Elections prior to Elections of Provincial Assemblies and National Assembly which are about to expire would amount to get elected from an assembly whose current popularity and approval among people of Pakistan had not been tested and hence can not be empowered to elect the President for next five years. This would definitely deprive people from their right of vote to bring about change including President for next tenure.
I being the potential Presidential Candidate (Waiting for Election Commission or Supreme Court's decision) have serious objection over holding of Presidential Election prior to the election of fresh Electoral College. Please for Allah's sake and sake of people of Pakistan be the guardian of right of people of Pakistan and not otherwise.
With Most Cordial Regards;
Sincerely yours,
Prof. (Dr.) Anwar Ul Haque
