Imam Hussain Sacrificed for the Glory of Human Rights
New York: (PR). Eminent scholar Dr. Maqsood Jafri in his interview to International Al-Hadi TV in New York said that the martyrdom of Imam Hussain was the most tragic incident of the Muslim history. This event teaches us perseverance, patience, courage and sacrifice. Yazid was the first monarch of the Muslims, who violated the Islamic norms and human rights. Islam rejects fascism and monarchy and promotes civil and political rights. Imam Hussain was asked by the dictatorial un-Islamic tyrant to take the pledge of his allegiance, which he valiantly refused by saying that how a man like him could accept Yazid as a Muslim caliph. It was not the battle between two princes. Rather it was the battle between two principles, Dr. Maqsood Jafri asserted.
Dr. Maqsood Jafri further emphasized on the need of proper understanding of the sacrifice of Imam Hussain at the plain of Karbala with his kith and kin and appealed to all Muslim sects to promote democratic and moderate culture by respecting the views of each other. He said that we need unity and moderation. We need a harmonious society based on the principles of justice, freedom and equity. Imam Hussain laid down his life for eternal golden principles of Islam. We must heed to his mission. He was the stalwart of human rights who even in his last sermon at Karbala said that his purpose was to guide and reform the Muslim Ummah and had no desire for political power. He announced that his crusade was to implement justice and freedom. Dr. Maqsood Jafri said that Imam Hussain was the martyr of human values and human rights, hence he is the Martyr of Humanity.
