The Bill on Dual Nationality be Rejected in National Assembly
By: Dr. Maqsood Jafri New York
New York: (pr). The chairman of Political Research Cell New York Dr. Maqsood Jafri in a statement appealed to the members of the National Assembly of Pakistan to turn down the bill against the dual nationals in the large interest of Pakistan. Dr. Maqsood Jafri referred to the article 63 of the constitution of Pakistan that states:" A person shall be disqualified from being elected or chosen as, and from being, a member of the Majlis-e- Shoora(Parliament),if; (c) he ceases to be a citizen of Pakistan, or acquires the citizenship of a foreign state," and opined that the parliament should change this provision and permit the Pakistanis having dual citizenship.
Dr. Maqsood Jafri stressed that the Pakistanis living abroad are great asset of Pakistan. They are the ambassadors of Pakistan and defend the cause of Pakistan at all levels without any greed or remuneration. They are not less than any other claimant of patriotism. They sent money to Pakistan and invest there for the welfare of their countrymen. In the USA, UK, Australia and Canada, people having dual nationality are in the parliament and senate and these countries have not passed any law against them. But it is very tragic that the Pakistanis living abroad have neither the right to vote nor the right to be the members of Parliament and senate. Dr. Maqsood Jafri demanded 30 seats in the provincial assemblies, 25 in the national assembly and 10 in the senate of Pakistan for the Pakistanis having dual nationality living abroad. He said that if the overseas Pakistanis are deprived of their rights, the coming generations of these Pakistanis will lose interest in Pakistan and it will be a great loss to Pakistan on the diplomatic and economic level. We must give more facilities to the Pakistanis abroad and involve them in the political, social and economic matters for the welfare of Pakistan, Dr. Maqsood Jafri asserted.
