APL seeks CJ intervention to save Civil system, Barrister Amjad Malik, Chair APL

LONDON, January 11, 2012 - The Association of Pakistani Lawyers (APL), a team of Pakistani origin lawyers, Solicitors, Barristers, and Judges in UK has in an emergency session noted with great concerns the developments in Pakistan and has decided to seeks Chief Justice of Pakistan’s  intervention to save Civil system before its too late.

APL noted prime Minister’s statement that affidavits filed by Chief of Army Staff and Director General Inter Services Intelligence were not in accordance with law, and further in his statement in the Parliament vowing not to allowing a  ‘state within a state’  and on 11 January 2012 his dismissal of Secretary Defence indicate the tenacity of situation and possibility of further dismissals with disastrous consequences. APL has decided to request today the honourable Chief Justice to stop Chief Executive from dismissing unlawfully the military chief until the ‘NRO’ and ‘Memo’ case is concluded as any sacking may invite 12 October 1999 like situation wiping out chances of a civil transition.

APL affirmed that if the Political class on the whole fail to void this highly dangerous brinkmanship, then the Honourable Chief justice must block action having potential of counter reaction which may lead to ‘unconstitutional regime’ and anarchy smiting the civil system of Governance in the country for which country on the whole & countrymen will pay for years.

APL invited the Government that the key to resolve the political unrest in the country is hidden in the implementation of ‘Charter of Democracy’ and seeking viable solution through a meaningful dialogue and seeking a fresh mandate. locking horn is no service to Pakistan, its people, and democracy

End:-

Barrister Amjad Malik
