APL has condemned intimidation of journalists in Pakistan
(London) 5 March 12, Association of Pakistani Lawyers (UK) a team of British Pakistani Solicitors, Barristers and judges have taken a serious note & condemned intimidation of journalists and in particular registering a criminal case against Hamid Mir, a renowned journalist and fighter for the rights of free print & electronic media.
APL chair Barrister Amjad Malik in a statement has said that Association will wholeheartedly support Hamid Mir (pro Bono) and will support in his pleadings (if needed) and herewith demand the federal and provincial Govt to end this frivolous prosecution. If anyone had any grouse on his journalistic work, that can be lawfully complained & considered by media representatives, press clubs, and or higher courts under civil laws of the land. Hamid Mir is larger than to be intimidated by these smaller pressure tactics & FIRs and the Association hoped, it will not undermine his resolve to continue his struggle for freedom of information and media rights enshrined in the Article 19 of the 1973 constitution of Pakistan. APL further appreciated the hard working journalists who are working tirelessly in meagre resources for people's right to know and laying their lives in the line of their duty for a greater cause.
