Pensioners Over 85
Kindly allow me the courtesy of your august columns to draw the attention of
the Ministry of Finance towards an ambiguity in the mind of some regarding the
25% increase in the pension of those who have attained the age of 85 years on
July 1st 2016.
The SRO reads, “25 percent increase in net pension to all pensioners of
federal government above the age of 85 years with effect from 1st July
2016”.
1.
Does it apply to only those who are/were 85 on July 1st 2016
or shall it also apply to all those who attain this age at some future date
also? That is; anyone becoming 85 on, say, 1st of August 2016 and so on so
forth. In other words, shall it become applicable to any pensioner as and
when he/she attains the age of 85 years?
2.
Does it apply to the widow/widower pensioners whose demised spouses had they
lived would have attained this age of 85 years on July 1st 2016 or
as and when thereafter?
Will this SRO automatically apply to all such
future cases or will the government have to issue a fresh notification each
year? Our auditors at the CMA and AGPR are too well known for their
hairsplitting interpretations of such worded SROs.
