Same Rut Same Routine
Now that the governments at the centre and provinces are in place, one is dismayed to find that not much of change is visible or anticipated from the previous rut and routine. Despite some of the sworn-in neocons alleged to be there only for a stopgap period till the real icons ascend the thrones at the centre and the Punjab, yet they are dutifully following the script written for the rulers of the early 50s. In that they are required automaton-like to (1) condemn all acts of the previous government (2) blame them for all ills "“ real and imaginary, (3) change the policies of the previous rulers (so that there is no continuity), (4) declare them all corrupt by digging faults in mega projects and big spendings by them. (5) pay solemn ceremonial homage at Quaid's mausoleum without meaning a word or following any of his principles and deeds (in fact to make him turn him in his grave), (6) offer hazari and change ghilaaf at Data Darbar or whichever shrine is the nearest. (7) take a plane load of lackeys to Umera to beseech Allagh's help and blessings at your and my expense. (8) appoint the favourites at the most lucrative posts within and without Pakistan, (9) appoint ministers without merit, as someone remarked, "who can not differentiate between Adam and atom as Science & Technology minister", etc.
And lastly, forget about atta, bijli aur mehngai. Hell with the tall promises made to the hapless who will in any case vote them to power again and probably with still heavier a mandate. For how long will we remain silent spectators to the Same Rut Same Routine?.
