Hunt for Governor
Why is it taking the govt. such long in appointing a governor for Sindh? Is
there some sort of haggling or negotiations going on between the political
parties in picking up one who should be acceptable to them all? Why do
they want him to be their man? Do they expect him to favour them even if they
are wrong? Why can’t the President appoint someone who is firm, fair, competent,
honest, just and physically fit? Is there a problem in finding someone
with such righteous traits? If it is, then it is the most unfortunate for us as
a nation that we can’t produce a single such person! Or, do the political
parties want the ‘selected’ person to side with them in case of a dispute or
favour irrespective of the merit of the case or what is good for the
country?
Same is always the case in appointing the head of the most other important
autonomous or semiautonomous bodies. Can the person so selected and
appointed be said to be a man of character, who will favour one or the other
out of the merit and against his conscience? As a matter of fact, anyone
appointed after such haggling between the parties should decline to accept the
appointment lest he be dubbed as an insipid, spineless and characterless person
who would be dancing to the tunes called by his appointee.
What kind of a people are we?
