In the Line of Hell Fire

Chapter 04

Murder of the Lawyer

Iqbal Raad Shaheed was a very talented and hardworking lawyer who had been working as Advocate General of Sind High Court prior to joining the defense layers team of Mr. Nawaz Sharif. When Pervaiz Musharraf as a part of preplanned CIA drama and a war against Islam toppled the elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Iqbal Raad did not betray Mr. Nawaz Sharif and chose to defend him in the court despite many threats from Musharraf. He complained that his telephone connections had been cut and his fax machine had been taken away from his office by secret agencies. He had declared just a couple of days prior to his murder that he wound prove beyond any shred of doubt in the court that the plane hijack was a CIA orchestrated drama. That of course Musharraf and CIA could not tolerate and hence they used their pet and paid agents i.e. MQM! Terrorist Tony Blair (TB) had given asylum and UK citizenship to MQM boss who is wanted in numerous murder and torture cases. In return they use him to kill whomsoever they want to eliminate. Hakeem Saeed and Takbeer's editor Slahuddin were among their many victims. Both were very vocal and had exposed the schisms of CIA and Aga Khan. The latter was killed approximately two weeks after he published the designs and plots of Aga Khan in Gilgit and Chitral. Mr. Iqbal Raad as then Advocate General of Sind High Court had reached very close to the murderers of Hakeem Saeed and they belonged, of course to none other than MQM. So MQM could be easily used against Iqbal Raad and that was exactly done by Musharraf and CIA. Musharraf appointed Justice Ramat Ali Jeffery who also used many pressure tactics against Nawaz Sharif's lawyers. At times Sharif's lawyers including Ijaz Batalwi etc. threatened to withdraw from the case as there was no hope for justice. Let us go back in the recent history and see how and why Musharraf apart from committing high treason, killed so many good people and is still going on his rampage. Allah Ta'lah has indeed let the rope around his neck loose!

Human Rights organization took note of the fact that early in the year, the military government moved to strip the judiciary of much of its power. On January 26, General Musharraf issued an order requiring all Supreme and High Court judges to take an oath binding them to uphold his proclamation of a national emergency and to adhere to the
Provisional Constitution Order (PCO). Many, including the chief justice of the Supreme Court, refused to take the oath. A total of fifteen judges were removed. Naturally On May 12, a reconstituted Supreme Court issued a verdict rejecting petitions challenging the coup's legality. The court set a deadline of three years for the holding of national and provincial elections, but reserved authority to review the continuation of the Proclamation of Emergency, leaving the door open to future extensions of military rule.

In December 1999 the military government amended the Anti-Terrorism Act
to add hijacking and conspiracy to the list of offenses falling within the Anti-Terrorism Court's jurisdiction. These offenses were then applied retroactively to Nawaz Sharif. Another amendment allowed the government to replace the judge originally assigned to hear the case, a Sharif appointee. In January, the new judge stepped down, publicly
complaining of the presence of intelligence agents in his courtroom. In March, only days before the final arguments were to be presented in the trial, Sharif's lawyer, Iqbal Raad, and two of his colleagues were assassinated in their office. Other members of the defense team charged that the government had failed to provide them protection despite repeated warnings that they were being threatened. A month after
Sharif's conviction by the Anti-Terrorism Court, he was shifted to Attock Fort-an army-occupied sixteenth century fortress west of Islamabad-to face trial on charges of concealing assets and evading taxes in connection with his acquisition of a helicopter. He was convicted on July 22, and sentenced to fourteen years in prison, with a fine of Rs. 20 million (U.S. $380,000).

"Sharif lawyer killed as Pakistani junta cracks down on opposition" appears in India Today By Vilani Peiris on 17 March 2000 saying: "Events over the last week surrounding the trial of Pakistan's ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif have revealed the growing nervousness in ruling circles over emerging opposition to the country's military junta
headed by General Pervaiz Musharraf. On March 10, in broad daylight, unidentified gunmen cold-bloodedly murdered Iqbal Raad, one of Sharif's main defense lawyers, and his two assistants in Karachi. Three gunmen armed with pistols and an automatic
weapon entered Raad's office, sprayed it with bullets and fled in a waiting car. According to the acting city police chief they seemed to be highly trained the way they carried out the murder! The Musharraf regime formally condemned the murder, attempting to deflect attention from itself by blaming India's intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Police investigators speculated that there may be a personal motive behind the killing. But the obvious explanation is that it was carried out for political reasons, most likely by the junta or its political sympathizers, in a bid to intimidate Sharif, his lawyers and supporters. Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League (PML) immediately blamed the junta for the killing. PML leader Ejaz Shaffi told the News International that the incident was the outcome of a well-hatched conspiracy for which nobody else other than the government could be held responsible. Raad was a PML member, a close collaborator of Sharif, and had played a prominent part in his legal defense"¦"¦The former prime minister's legal team had previously complained that their hotel rooms were bugged and that Sharif's notes had been stolen from his prison cell. Raad's office had been burgled and he had complained of receiving threats prior to his death"¦..Raad was killed as the Musharraf regime was taking measures to crack down on opposition forces. Pakistani authorities announced last weekend that police have filed a complaint against Sharif's wife, accusing her of treason. A police spokesman said Kulsoom Sharif and other PML leaders were being investigated for making provocative speeches against the armed forces in a bid to create hatred against the government at a meeting last week in the Pakistani city of Hyderabad. The complaint is the first step towards the official filing of charges. The junta is clearly concerned about the visit by Clinton, who only
decided to put Pakistan on his itinerary at the last minute. Clinton is expected to press Musharraf for a crackdown on Islamic fundamentalist groups, particularly those backing Kashmiri separatists, and for pressure to be applied to the Taliban regime in Afghanistan to curb its support for Islamic groups within the region. "¦Sharif's wife Kulsoom and relatives in the packed, stifling courtroom burst into angry screams of "Nawaz Sharif zindabad". But there were no signs of protest on the streets, a sign of Sharif's continuing unpopularity. "Such a judgment will make the nation hang its head in shame," said his distraught wife. "What an honor for a country to charge its elected prime minister with hijacking." Javed Jabbar, chief adviser to Musharraf: said "We want Sharif to be subject to the law that he himself formulated and promulgated. " In an ominous precedent, the verdict came almost exactly 21 years to the day after the country's first elected Prime Minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, was tried and hanged under the last military ruler, General Zia ul-Haq."

On Nov. 4 1998 then   Advocate General, M. Iqbal Raad, told the Sindh High Court that
Sheikh Mohammad Aamirullah, accused in the murder of Hakeem Mohammad Saeed, has not so far given his confessional statement which is required to be given before a magistrate under Section 164 CrPC. He added that the accused has only confessed to having had a part in the murder before the police and notables. Britain had rejected a request from Pakistan government for the arrest and extradition of former additional director general of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Rehman Malik (A die hard Qadyani), who was living in self-imposed exile in London.

Sarfraz Hunjra  wrote in Islam Online that it is most likely that the state could be behind all this, fully determined that Nawaz and his defense contingent will be harassed to a point that they will just give up. It is also highly unlikely that this was Mr. Raad's personal blood feud, as he had no known personal vendetta against anyone"

Begum Kulsoom Nawaz urged the people and armed forces to keep an eye on appointment of Qadyanis on She also asked armed forces to take notice of the activities
of Mansoor Ijaz who she said was trying to broker a secret agreement on Kashmir. She also questioned the chief executive's offer of rolling back nuclear and missile technology. "Who gave him authority to make such an offer?" she asked.

Murder of Iqbal Raad was just the beginning of killing spree of Musharraf who has by now emerged as number 1 Terrorist of Pakistan surpassing Mr. Altaf Hussain of MQM. In collaboration with MQM he has killed numerous religious scholars in Karachi. Of course CIA, RAW, MI5, Mossad and KGB are all forming an axis of evil using their most obedient slaves Musharraf and MQM. Many prominent political and religious leaders were also killed in Punjab including Bin Yameen. And just day before yesterday i.e. on 30th October Musharraf killed about 83 persons in a cold blood murder in a religious school. If he suspected something wrong he could have arrested them and put before court. But he chose as usual to take law in his own hand and ruthlessly kill absolutely innocent people including children of 11-15 years.
