"˜Slumdog Millionaire' infuriates Amitab
The other day, I went to see "˜Slumdog Millionaire', and found it one of the best movies I watched in recent months. The story is based on "˜Kaun Banega Krorpaphi, introduced by Ametab Bachan in India. Writing in his blog, Ametab criticized the movie calling it "˜third world dirty underbelly', which has caused "˜pain and disgust among nationalists and patriots.'
How did he make this opinion is beyond me; as the film showed a true picture of the slum areas of Mombai ripened with poverty, social disparity, sectarian hate and controlled by the underworld gangsters. His annoyance was particularly surprising as the movie elevated the character of an Indian police officer who despite being pushed by the game host Aneel Kapoor, showed his honesty investigating the slumdog millionaire Jamal. The police officer, reminded me of the slain Hement Karare who despite of pressures investigated the case of Sumjhota Express with utmost honesty. Amitab should be thankful to the makers of the movie as they portrayed him not only an extremely popular actor but also elevated his character when he gave autograph to little Jamal who just had a dip in a pool of faeces.
