Walk Against Corruption
In response to an invitation that the Civil Society was organizing a \'Walk against Corruption\' on 18 March 2010 in Islamabad, which would be led by eminent and one of the most senior and outspoken ex-civil servants, Mr. Roedad Khan, and that the Walk would start from China Chowk (Blue Area) and terminate at D Cross (near the saluting dais of Pakistan Day Parade), and the participants would collect at the start point by 4 PM, I has responded as under:-
Rishwat khor par KHUDA ki La\'nat.
It is indeed a very good cause and we must participate in the walk. However, Walk is one time affair and though it would create some awareness amongst the people yet, the awareness cannot be too enduring. To keep the message alive it would need to be repeated off and on, which is not very feasible. May I, therefore, suggest that in order to create a much wider impact lasting perpetually and reminding all daily we should in our correspondence with the public and private organizations and amongst ourselves inscribe in bold at the top of our letterheads and emails something denouncing corruption in the severest of the terms, like "
1. Rishwat laneywala aur denaywala dono jahhanmi hein.
2. Rishwat khor par Khuda ki la\'nat.
3. Rishwat khana khanzeer khaney ke brabar hai.
4. Rishwat ki kamaei aall aulad ki tabahi
etc. etc.
Alongwith it we must also carry out the social boycott of the corrupt by ostracizing him/her. What in our cultural jargon is called "Hukka paani band".
I am sure the perpetual reminder through our correspondence and the practical step of ostracizing would have the desired effect in eradicating the curse from our society.
