The genius brains of WAPDA.
According to Haroon Rashid speaking on a well known talk show, a WAPDA technician was called to Islamabad from Lahore to temper with the electric meters of over 300 households belonging to high government officials. The wizard man was known to have ‘obliged’ 55 factory owners in Faisal Abad and 300 in Lahore.
It was interesting to learn that the information was provided to Haroon Rashid by a close friend of Mr. Rehman Malik. It is said that WAPDA is full of such ‘genius brains’, which, for a small ‘fee’ reduces the speed of the meters to half. In another program on the subject, Mr. Kamran Khan exposed some well-known personalities from Karachi involved in this crime.
Both groups, the fixers and the beneficiaries are committing crime, but the former might be doing it to fill the bellies of their families while the latter to fill their pockets. One is ‘need-based’, the other ‘greed-based’. Whatever the reasons, a crime is a crime and is punishable by law.
There is a message for Raja Pervez Ashraf too in these stories. If he doesn’t control the load shedding soon, the frustrated people of Pakistan will come out on the streets translating their frustration into something else, the like of which was seen lately on the streets of Kirghizstan. We have already seen such eruption on the streets of Bara Kahu which spread like wildfire to Abpara, when the wagons increased the fare by Rs 6.
