Political Hyenas by Dr. Ghayur Ayub

In the post Musharaf era, the leaders of PML-Q have been behaving like Hyenas. Hyenas are known for scavenging on left overs. Last year, they attempted to grab Punjab government after the Governor's Rule, when they wagged their tails with PPP at the Governor House in Lahore and the Presidency in Islamabad. Now, the the same political hyenas have started growling with saliva dripping down their jaw Click here to read Full Article

A Missing Wikileak? by Dr Ghayur Ayub

Tickers on different news channels were running fast at the bottom of the television screen. It was the evening before the next batch of Wikileaks were due for publication. I made sure to buy The Guardian - one of five newspapers publishing the documents. With remote control in hand, I was browsing through Sky News, BBC, CNN, Al-Jazeera and Press TV. To the best of my recollection, it was Sky News Click here to read Full Article
Zaid Hamid v Dr Farzana Bari by Dr. Ghayur Ayub

In a TV talk show hosted by Dr Shahid Masood; an apparent difference emerged between Zaid Hamid and Dr Farzana Bari on Iqbal when the former spoke of him as Wali without using the actual term, and the latter as Philosopher without using the actual word. They were both right in their understanding of Iqbaliat and those who watched them must have enjoyed the discussion without prejudice to either. Click here to read Full Article

Leaning on someone or something by Dr Ghayur Ayub

I was out of station for almost two months; hence the delay in my short and long write-ups. During this time, I came across many people but would like to talk about two I had discussions with, and one whom I missed talking to. They are; a corporate executive; a scientist; and a cardiologist. They all have been very close to me for various reasons. Click here to read Full Article

Aristotle observed that, 'given the choice between a king who ruled by discretion and a king who ruled by law, the latter was clearly superior to the former.' In recent times, Albert Dicey, who is considered to be the godfather of the unwritten British Constitution, had laid out three principles in his 1885 book An Introduction to the Study of the Law of the Constitution, stating that; everyone is Click here to read Full Article

The emergence of free electronic media in Pakistan has made some (not all) anchors of the TV talk-shows tremendously powerful and notorious in their approaches. They invite any Tom, Dick and Harry of their choice to their shows and make them throw dirt on each other and spread venom against their opponents. In this way, the guests are satisfied to see their faces on the small screen and Click here to read Full Article
PM's broadcast. by Dr. Ghayur Ayub

An important political personality and a vital issue were missing during and in the PM's broadcast respectively; the CM of Punjab from the dais; and reference to NRO in his address. The former represents the biggest opposition party; the latter is the actual reason which has created a rift between the judiciary and the executive and widened the gap Click here to read Full Article

Lord Curzon understood the Pakhtun psyche and separated Pakhtu speaking areas from the domination of Punjab in 1901, creating NWFP. He particularly concentrated on the tribal region and wisely combined the draconian Frontier Crime Regulation (FCR) and military objectives with a softer policy of winning the hearts and minds of the tribal people through development projects pertaining to communicati Click here to read Full Article
Judiciary saved the government by Dr. Ghayur Ayub

It looks like, the wise judiciary saved the unwise government from constitutional crises by taking a pre-emptive step on presumptive action allegedly suggested by the legal gurus around the President. The PM should open his eyes and realise that being the constitutional chief executive after the 18th amendment, it would have been his neck on the block, as the action would have been a treasonable Click here to read Full Article
