PRESS RELEASE
Mr Yusuf Raza Gilani the current Prime Minister of Pakistan visited the United Kingdom on 8th May 2012 along with an excessively large entourage (consisting of around 70 persons) who were funded by the National Exchequer of Pakistan and therefore in turn by the citizens of Pakistan. I have filed a Constitutional Petition before the Honourable High Court of Sindh through my lawyer Mr. Osman A. Hadi invoking the Constitutional Jurisdiction of the Honourable Court to protect my guaranteed fundamental rights under the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973, which have been violated.
We had previously written to the Finance Ministry as well as the Cabinet Division requesting that they provide us with the information as to the necessity and cost of such a large entourage accompanying the PM, but they failed to reply. We have also made Pakistan International Airlines (“PIA”) a party as it is believed that a big aircraft was used in this trip causing great loss and delays in travel to the citizens of Pakistan.
The PM and the entire entourage staying at the exclusive Churchill Hotel in London. it is further believed that a fleet of thirty (30) limousines were hired for the duration of the trip. Reports state the five day trip has cost the National Exchequer around $1,000,000 (United States Dollars One Million). It is our claim that there has been a severe misuse of Public Funds, and particularly keeping in mind that our poor country is going through severe economic crisis, lack of energy, inflaton, poverty and joblessness and therefore we feel the perpetrators should be brought before the Honourable Courts and held accountable for their actions in violation of the Constitution and our fundamental rights.
