MQM Chief Altaf issued contempt notice by SC

This is one of the most important news I read today Friday 14th December, 2012 in all the newspapers under the category on latest news saying that Supreme Court has issued court of contempt against Altaf Hussain, Chief, MQM under article 204 of Pakistan Constitution and section 3 of Contempt of Court Law.

A three member-bench headed by CJP Iftikhar took cognizance of Altaf speech delivered on 2nd December which as per SC has some very serious objections which simply cannot be ignored and hence SC has asked PEMRA to give complete recording of the telephonic address of MQM Chief. The court adjourned to meet again on the issue on 7th January, 2013 when Altaf has also been asked to appear in person before SC and explain as to why did he say so and if his reply is not satisfactory then he will be liable to undergo some punishment.  Altaf is sitting in London for many years and one way or the other he keeps on addressing public through telephonic system and surprisingly he pulls more crowd in different cities and towns simultaneously and this happened not once or twice but each time when he addresses which at times are too frequent as well. Time and gain he has proved his strength irrespective of the fact as to who occupied the throne. He pulled much more people to listen to him while Mian Nawaz Sharif was very much enjoying the power and he proved his might to Pervez Musharraf as well both while he was in uniform and without uniform while his graph if popularity did nit scale down since Zardari has taken over so it is proved beyond any shadow of doubt that Altaf has won unchallenged position in Pakistan which many may not like but fact remains fact and should neither be lessened nor ignored.

So far so good and I also admit that Altaf had emerged as a power which ought to be reckoned but at the same time it does not mean that he can be given completely free hand to say whatever he feels like saying without any checks. Pakistan is an independent and sovereign country which has its own constitution and laws which must be strictly adhered to and any contravention is liable to punishment and from that stand point of view I  am completely with SC because none can be allowed to say something against our constitution but at the same time my only worry is as to how Altaf will come to Islamabad from London to appear before SC on 7th January because he has never ever come back to Pakistan since he left the country many long years back. Moreover, since long he has acquired British nationality as well so it is still the more difficult to bind him to appear before SC. Incidentally just a few months back our former ambassador is USA Hussain Haqqani had been issued notices to come back to Pakistan in connection with memo scandal but he did not come and perhaps will not come so how Altaf will come to Islamabad to appear before SC is a bit trifling question if someone realizes.

I am not a political worker so I am a completely a neutral person and pen whatever is the ground reality without giving it any biased color but have a very strong feelings that if at all Altaf comes to Pakistan then his mere presence will create law and order situation similar to what Benazir had created and from that point of view I have my very serious doubts that Zaradari and his junta can keep the situation under control. Quite possibly Altaf may create more serious law and order situations than what we have noticed when BB came back so from that angle Malik Rehman and his team must be on guard and high alert to face the untoward scenes likely to be noticed as and when Altaf comes. Interior Minister must give it a very serious consideration and who knows may be Altaf comes to appear before SC as per the contempt notice issued to him but in case if we are not geared and toned up to face the mammoth crowds when Altaf comes then we are our own enemy and digging our own graves. Don’t keep shut your eyes and falsely believing that nothing will happen if Altaf comes. One thing is as sure as death that Altaf is the biggest crowd puller which he has proved each and every time he addressed from London so it goes without saying that in Pakistan history none had pulled so much as he will pull if he comes back on 7th January which is not that distant away in any case if one judiciously realizes the seriousness and the gravity so involved therein.

Lets us wait till 7th January to see as to what happens next.
