Multan Marring
April 14th ransacking of MEPCO offices, razing a bank to flames and torching of over a dozen vehicles might be viewed as a reaction from the frustrated and fed up small time industrialists of Multan against the perpetual power shortage and too frequent outages which have threatened their very existence and thereby deprive thousands of their workers of the two morsels that they earned for the families from these industries. However, the way they stormed and scorched the area with gun totting Kalashnikov firing indiscriminately was a matter of great concern to all. They presented a picture of completely taking over the law and order into their hands, so much so that a Police official was heard saying live over a TV channel covering the carnage that it had never happened before in Multan and the he wondered as to how could it happen there. Could it be a case of "Siyyan bahey kotwal hamein dar kahay ka"? One sincerely hopes not. In order to dispel any such misperception about the jialas and the patronage offered to them, the PPP administration must immediately take strict action against the hooligans to nip the evil in the bud and not allow the cancer of lawlessness to spread any further. The nation is already having sleepless nights over the happenings in Karachi and the suspected hand behind it. Let it not be repeated anywhere else in the country.
