Asks Party leaders and workers to redouble efforts to solve people's problems
London PPP 20, 2008: Co-Chairman PPP Senator Asif Ali Zardari has said that the coalition's decision to impeach the former President General (retired) Pervez Musharraf was not an easy one but had to be taken to strengthen democracy and democratic institutions.
Addressing a dinner meeting of the Party MNAs at the Zardari House Wednesday evening the PPP Co-Chairman said that the resignation of the former President was a manifestation of what Shaheed Mohtarma Bhutto used to say that democracy was the best revenge.
He said that Musharraf's resignation had proved once again that the decision to participate in the elections of February 2008 was a correct decision even though some people at the time forcefully advocated boycotting the elections.
Senator Asif Ali Zardari said that now that Musharraf was out of the way the Party and the coalition had to concentrate on other critical issues affecting democracy on the one hand and addressing the common man's problems like inflation, law and order and unemployment on the other.
The PP Co-Chairman asked the Party workers and leaders to redouble their efforts to ameliorate the lot of the common man.
He said that those who criticized the PPP approach to national issues were surprised when the Party moved to impeach Musharraf and secured his resignation. The Party will pursue its progressive and democratic agenda in the future as well.
