6000 sacked employees to be reinstated: Sherry |
Updated at: 0309 PST, Friday, November 07, 2008 ISLAMABAD: Federal Cabinet has decided to reinstate the 6000 sacked government employees who were appointed in Pakistan People's Party rule during 1996-1998 and a committee has been set up in this regard.
They would be reinstated with seniority and back financial benefits, said Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Sherry Rehman and added that billions of rupees would be paid off to them in this wake.
Federal Minister for Information, Sherry Rehman giving a briefing to the media after Federal Cabinet meeting here on Thursday, said the government has also decided to cut ministers' foreign tours.
"Those to be reinstated also include sacked employees of Sui Southern Gas Company," she said, adding these employees will be allowed same seniority that they had at the time of their removal besides other benefits.
In order to carry out the reinstatement a committee led by Raza Rabbani has been formed which includes Sherry Rehman, Naveed Qamar, Shaukat Tareen, Abdul Razzaq Thaheem and Rehmatullah Kakar.
Sherry Rehman said the expenses of Prime Minister have been cut down by 40 per cent while recommendations have been sought for reducing the expenditure of the ministers.
Textile industry will be provided a relief package worth Rs1.2 billion while a bill for workplace harassment of women has also been passed, the Information Minister told the reporters. |
