"The world must act quickly and justly to bring an end to Israeli aggression in Gaza"

Sherry Rehman

Federal Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Central Information Secretary Pakistan Peoples Party, Sherry Rehman, has said that the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza against innocent Palestinians is a grave threat to global peace, and the world must act quickly and justly to bring an end to it.

"The world must act quickly and justly to stop the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, which is violating the UN Charter," said Ms. Rehman during a meeting with the Charge d' Affairs of Palestine, Mr. Jaser Ahmed M. Mohammad, who called on the Federal Minister today in her offices. "Israel's actions against innocent Palestinian civilians undermine the international community's efforts to promote a just and equitable resolution of the Palestinian issue, while also posing a new threat to stability in Middle East."

"The situation in Gaza shows a sad travesty of justice for the Palestinian people who have given many sacrifices and made many compromises along the hard road of their legitimate right to statehood," said the Federal Minister and PPP Central Information Secretary, Ms. Rehman.

Calling upon the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) and the Arab League (AL) to step up efforts for an immediate halt to violence in Gaza, Ms. Rehman said that the current situation posed a major challenge for the international community that needed to work closely with the Muslim world in seeking a just and viable solution to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

The Palestinian Charge d' Affairs briefed Ms. Rehman on the latest situation in Gaza and the hardships being faced by the Palestinian civilians in the area. Mr. Jaser Ahmed Mohammad informed the Federal Minister that children and women remained the main casualties in the latest cycle of violence which had claimed more than 500 Palestinian lives to date.

On behalf of the Pakistani government, the Federal Minister assured the visiting dignitary of extending immediate medical assistance for residents of Gaza on humanitarian grounds. The Minister also discussed areas in which Pakistan could extend cooperation for the development of the Palestinian state media.

Palestinian Charge d' Affairs, Mr. Jaser Ahmed Mohammad, informed Ms. Rehman that the Palestinian people highly valued principled support of the Pakistan Peoples Party for their struggle. Acknowledging the significance of January 5 for Pakistan, he paid rich tributes to PPP Founder Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto's formidable legacy vis-à-vis the Muslim world and expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan's steadfast solidarity with the Palestinian people and their just cause.
