The Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mr. Qamar Zaman Kaira reiterated government’s commitment to help resolve journalists’ genuine problems and said that its door for dialogue and discussion on professional issues would always remain open. The government, he said, believes in the freedom of Media and considers it as a significant institution for the promotion of democracy.
The Minister was talking to a delegation of Rawalpindi/Islamabad Union of Journalists headed by its prtesident Mr Sheheryar Khan here at the Ministry this afternoon.
The Minister further said that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and all its departments would continue to play their role as a facilitator for the journalists in discharging their professional obligations.
While assuring the RIUJ delegation the Minister said that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting would make concerted efforts for better working environments for journalists, he said that a programme for the training of journalists would be initiated soon particularly for those covering conflict areas and crises situations.
The delegation of RIJU apprised the Minister of the problems and difficulties of the working journalists. They also asked for appropriate facilities for journalists as being extended to professionals in various sectors.
The delegation also included Mr.Aamir Sajjad Syed , Sr. Vice President of RIUJ, Mr Ashfaq Sajid, Vice President ,Mr Pervaiz Shoukat, Ex President(PFUJ), Mr. Afzal Butt, Secretary Press Club, Mr. Bilal Dar, Finance Secretary, Mr. Iqbal Jaffary, Joint Secretary and members of governing body.
