A Tribute to our Young Officers
by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)
Maj Gen Athar Abbas’ letter under the above caption appeared in today’s News Post which surprisingly did not contain any heroic tale of our young officers. Instead it told of a story of a U.S army. Capt Jim who had heroically gone back to rescue his wounded corporal left behind during the bombardment in an operation in Vietnam war. I am sure the General must have recounted an equally heroic act of some of our young officer(s) without which the caption of the letter looks absurd and out of context. But I suppose publishing a letter eulogizing the officers of Pakistan army does not fall in line with the army hating policy of the Jang group – Geo not excepted. Never mind Jang Group, we can do without you as the nation not only recognizes the valour of our young brave officers but also showers its praises upon them.
