Welcome to 2009 Mr. Bilor
I am not bound to please you with my answer. Shakespeare
Welcome to 2009- and to reality- Mr. Bilor.
Isn't it time for the career politicians, "˜traditional' as they are, to realize that this is 2009 and not the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s or even early 2000s? It appears that our politicians are still living, or at least seem to wish that they were living in the 1970s when its was so easy for them to bamboozle the people. It was also easy for them to hide their blunders and crimes of omission and commission, no matter how heinous thay had been, in the absence of an independent media and independant judiciary.
The New Indepenedendent Judiciary has instilled Hope in the people who were systematically being deprived of it by career politicians and bureaucrats. Is the dawn of Independent Judiciary and Real Judgesbothering you Mr. Bilor?
Mr. Bilor, and for that matter any and all other politicians, should realize that people are no more inclined to put up with rubbish political rhetorics. They want their elected representatives to honor election promises instead of using politics as the platform to amass riches. They want their representatives to do the job they were elected for, that is to make policies that alleviate their suffering instead of devising schemes to tax the people to death; let the profiteers loose without the slightest check; enjoy the perks and benefits on the one hand and to amass wealth and riches "˜by any means necessary' on the other.
Civilized societies strictly guard against mixing politics with business. There are specific laws and by-laws to ensure that the unholy nexus of politics and business does not take place. The primary objective of such laws, the best known od which is "˜Conflict of Interest', is to keep the politicians straight. There are laws that restrain not only the elected representatives including the head of the state, ministers and parliamentarins but also the public servants from accepting gifts over a fixed value, which even according to our standard is small. There are laws that allow accepting inexpensive gifts that are handed over to the specific government department after the retirement. Even the most powerful man on earth the President of the United States is not allowed to accept gifts whose value is more than a prescribed amount and to handover the gifts when he leaves the office.
Let me offer career politicians like Mr. Bilor an advice for free: If you want to be an entrepreneur why don't you quit politics and go run a real business instead of using politics as springboard for gains? Or at least have the decency to stop treating politics as the main means of livelihood because a substantial population of this man-made-poor country is living a sub-human existence due greatly to a political culture which at best is incompetent and at worst corrupt to the core.
What have poloticians done to improve the sub-human conditions under which the majority of the population of this country, Mr. Bilor?
In any case he should refrain from uttering the usual political gibberish, which he perceives his "˜elected stature' accords him unconditionally, because neither the august Judge of the Peshawar High Court nor the people deserve it. It, however, is easy to understand the "˜anxiety' of Mr. Bilor who was a coterie of the ruling elite that reinstated the Honorable Chief Justice Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary and his other august colleagues only after realizing that it could not resist the will of the people any more.
He should refrain from using foul language against the Honorable Judge of Peshawar High Court or be ready for a befitting rebuttal. Mr. Bilor represent just a single constituency unlike the august judges of the apex courts who own their reinstatement only to the unmatched peoples movement inspired by that loud "˜NO' of Honorable Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikar Muhammad Chaudhary's on March 9, 2007.
His outburst is understandable because for the first time ever the judiciary is really asserting itself- individually as well as collectively. It is a New Judiciary. It is an independeant judiciary that does not own its reinstatement to government, establishment or the bureaucracy but only to the people.
The days of unchecked leisure and luxury are over Mr. Bilor. Now politicians must justify their raison d'etre or should make a career change.
You have challenged the august Justice of Peshawar High Court to contest elections and than face you. You have tried to imply as if "˜electeds' are sacred cows and as if being elected gives you the right to speak as you please. Both the perceived implications are ludicrous because:
You are an elected representative in a country where people are so fed up with politicians that more than half of the registered voters just don't cast their votes. You are an elected representative in a country where only the elites can afford to contest the elections. . . where politicians like yourself have made the people wrongy believe that democracy starts and ends at elections with no accountability whatsoever afterwards... where the only agenda the rulers follow is personal, where rulers are all talk no action. . . where chosen segments of the society, including "˜peoples representatives', have become rich and powerful while their electorates- the masses in general- have gotten poorer with each passing year.
You may be an "˜elected representative' but that does not mean that the Constitution accords you the right to insult the "˜peoples' judges' that have given hope to the people. What has career politicians like yourself given the poeple Mr. Bilor who shake the hands of the people before elections and their confidence afterwards? Being "˜elected' also does not mean that I you enjoy any more freedom of thought and expression than me- we are equal in Law Mr. Bilor? You have magnimously apologized for the hanrangue so I would pretend as I had never written this article and you should pretend as if you have never read it. So long Mr. Bilor.
