KARACHI, June 21: The notorious human trafficker Rasheed Ahmed who was traveling along with a pregnant lady and an underage child, was arrested on Wednesday at Karachi airport due to a joint operation between the Ansar Burney Trust and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). He was taking the pregnant lady and another child to sell in the ME.
Rasheed Ahmed son of Yousuf was traveling to Muscat to go to Dubai, where he planned to sell the unborn child, the young child and the lady. He was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency Immigration department after receiving information by the Anti human trafficking and human rights organization Ansar Burney Trust.
Members of the Ansar Burney Trust had been watching Rasheed for some time and once his departure with his victims was confirmed, they contacted the DG FIA Tariq Pervaiz and launched an operation for his arrest at Karachi airport.
While talking to newsmen, the Chairman of the Trust and Anti human trafficking and Anti Slavery campaigner Ansar Burney said that Rasheed Ahmed was traveling to Oman to go to Dubai, where he was earlier arrested in 2004 and deported along with a former child camel jockey Nadeem. But he continued to traffick children to Oman and from there to the UAE through an open border at Berhemi.
"After the ban on the use of underage children as camel jockeys in some countries, he started trafficking young girls to the Middle East for sex exploitation". Burney said.
"However we continued to watch him and look for an opportunity where we could catch him in the act and have him arrested" Burney added.
Ansar Burney said that on this occasion, Rasheed was traveling on the fake name of Mohammed Naeem son of Abdul Kareem along with a former child camel jockey Nadeem and a pregnant lady Firdous. However, due to information provided by the Ansar Burney Trust to the FIA, he was arrested at the Quaid-e-Azam International Airport on the directives of Director General FIA, Tariq Parvez.
"I would like to congratulate DG FIA, Tariq Parvez, Deputy Director Shahid Hayat and Sultan Khawaja and Assistant Director Airport Khaleeq uz Zaman in this regard and also like to request the Federal government to recognize their services in this regard". Burney added.
