Saint Benazir Bhutto"¦?

By Salahuddin on Jan 31, 2008 Guest Post by Salahuddin Farooq

It's not a taunt, its reality which I'm observing in all type of media and as well in general conversation of people. This scenario reflects the mentality of our nation. Our nation has only two images in their minds relating to their leaders, either they praise someone by ignoring negative aspects or they criticize someone in each and every condition. They have not balanced illustration of any personality.

I don't wanna give old examples; I just want to discuss recent issue of Ms. Bhutto assassination. This accident is terrible for Pakistan and heartbreaking for most of the Pakistanis who believe in unity of Pakistan. But what is the behavior of media and mature people after this catastrophe"¦? To express sorrow with the family and party workers of PPP is a very good thing. But please make these things with a balanced view.

A very famous quotation, "learn the lessons from mistakes" is not applicable for Pakistan. OK I admit that 70% of our nation is illiterate, what about to remaining 30..? Every person is promoting PPP at his best without mentioning the major mistakes of Ms. Bhutto. This directly implies to give green signal to new leadership of PPP to follow the blunders made by their late leader.

After trying a lot on all type of media in recent days, I couldn't find the hot issues about Ms. Bhutto when she was alive. The mainly are corruption cases of more than $1 billion, (and because of this she was not ready for Independence of Judiciary). Her decision to stand in elections when Musharraf was in poor conditions (I believe this decision directly strengthened Musharraf ). Her statements relating to Dr. A.Q. Khan, allowing Nato to attack on tribal areas and her comment of happiness on Jamia Hefsa incident.

Now there are following major questions from the supporters of PPP

  • Is there any official statement by Asif Zardari about Independent Judiciary?
  • What are the future plans of PPP about Dr. A.Q. Khan and operation of Nato in tribal areas? Are they still committed to the statements of their late leader?
  • What about corruption cases? Mr Zardari is nearly free from all cases because there is no independent Judiciary. Can Mr Zardari afford Justice Iftikhar in this scenario?
  • Finally about Jamia Hefsa. OK I accept the government announced deaths (190 I think). Are Members of PPP happy on this as their leader was?

My purpose is not to criticize the big party of Pakistan; real aim is to ask from all supporters that why are you ignoring the above mentioned issues? The real thing to do after Ms. Benazir is to promote good aspects of her life and to make future policy by avoiding mistakes made by her. Because it's not game in which its okay to loose or win, its matter of future of whole country.
