I will sob, not just lament, if my teacher loses
I am one of those proud students who have been taught law by Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, SM Zafar, Saadat Hassan Minto and Justice Dr Javed Iqbal (s/o Sir Allama Iqbal), to name just a few, at Punjab University Law College, Lahore during 1966-69 (I failed in pre 66-67).
The latest news of today Thursday 2nd Feb, 2012 is that a larger bench of seven judges of Supreme Court of Pakistan in Islamabad headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk issued an order saying that there are valid grounds to indict Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani in contempt of court and decreed that PM must be present in person before the SC bench on Monday 13th instant. This is very shocking news for me at least simply because now reputation of Aitzaz is at stake and I wonder why and how he risked his reputation. If one reads between the lines, personal presence of PM on next hearing, is very much meaningful and despite the fact that the court does enjoy inborn prerogative to issue an order even against PM during his absence on next hearing but it obliged PM to be available in person before the bench must not be so lightly. Had sky split apart or had Aitzaz been a pauper had he refused to plead the case? He was grossly mistaken if he has fallen back upon his efforts he had put in for restoration of higher judiciary during previous regime.
I am least concerned if PM is removed by SC but at the same time my mentor Aitzaz must not be not be ridiculed even a bit on 13th, I very sincerely pray.
