I learned a lesson once again - never throw shoes at a person carrying a loaded gun.

US President George W. Bush tells us that the US understands Israel's right to defend itself. I think no one disagrees with the principle that every people and nation have the right of self-defence.But we have to draw the line, between self-defence and terrorism, because in the past several days, (and as I write this the number is growing), more than 650 Palestinians, a third of them children and women, including dozens of civilians were killed by Israeli tank shells as they were seeking shelter last Tuesday at a UN-run school in Gaza. Nearly 3,000 are wounded. . History has never seen the level of brutality that is being practised by Israelis. Is that not terrorism? I believe history has proven that violence breeds violence.

Can you imagine the reaction and outrage if more than 600 Americans or Israelis were killed? Is the life of a Palestinian regarded as less worthy? The shameful silence of most Western nations is a clear indication of the double standard that exists in the world order today. What have Most Arab and Muslim countries leaders done to intervene end the bloodshed? Are condemnations and demanding the ceasefire are enough the removal of the blockade. They need to stop discussing the situation and take action.

What Gaza tells us about ourselves is that we as Arabs and Muslims must revise our strategy with ourselves and the world. Our unity must be deeper than memberships in organisations. Because when 57 countries cannot enforce a ceasefire, then we know there is a lot of work to be done. True unity translates into a force to be reckoned with. , we must practically work towards real unity, built on our common aspirations of developing our societies, and our region and on human rights. Why do we forget that each one of us is answerable to the Almighty for our silence?

I would urge people around the world to forget nationalities, religions and issues with land ownership so that they could just focus on the humanitarian aspect.
