Why our eyes are shut on Syria?

I am really much pained to notice that neither our newspapers nor television networks talk about as to what is going on in Syria for almost a year. People have revolted right from one corner to another against President Bashar Al Assad but one way or the other we have proved to be much indifferent to one of the recent human crisis where reportedly 6,000 have already been killed. This figure can be more but not less in any case from any set of imagination because is such like chaotic conditions where human life is so unsafe not each and every death can be reported and then on the top of it government is also trying to hide it hence this figure is ought to be the truest and not otherwise. Hardly anyone knows how many have been incapacitated permanently or temporarily or injured but it is quite but natural that their figures will be much more than who have been killed. Thousands have been rendered displaced and homeless in any case.

Many senior government officials and parliament members have disassociated themselves from Bashar and left Syria and took refuge in other countries while others who could not leave the country are sitting at home but no more working for Bashar but regretfully the dictator is not pushed. Some countries including Kuwait have sent back Syrian Ambassador back to Damascuss thinking that it may send a message across to Bashar not to be so cruel to his own population but he just ignored such like moves. Arab League has condemned his brutalities but to no avail. Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of UN who is still very much respected internationally was sent to Damascuss to persuade Bashar to stop killings and quit the post when greater majority of population does not want him to continue but he returned empty handed. Bashar perhaps feels happy in killing people rather than seeing than living happily. Women and children are killed so brutally that not everyone can see the photographs of mutilated bodies. Human aid agencies are not allowed to reach destitute to provide some relief and indiscriminate killing is the order of the day.

CNN, BBC and other television channels along with newspapers from each and every corner including tiny Kuwait are covering Syria so very prominently but I am ashamed not just sorry to say that Pakistani media is keeping completely silent as if there is nothing to report but how and why, I simply do not understand. The latest is that just yesterday government facilities are bombed proves how much volatile the situation is even in capital Damascuss which should serve as an advice if not warning  that Bashar days are numbered and it is better for him to quit rather than dragging on for nothing. To the best of my knowledge and belief common principle and practice is that media is to report whatever happens anywhere and Syria simply cannot and should not be ignored in Pakistan when it is not ignored in other countries.

I do understand that our media team may not be taking risk to be in Syria and  endanger their lives by covering the vents themselves but the media can get photos and stories etc from other sources like Kuwait television and newspapers report about Syria so what stops us to do alike.

Isn’t it professional dishonesty on the part of our media which is behaving so indifferently and ignoring  Syria all together as if there is nothing to report about though in fact it is one of the recent colossal human tragedy, may I dare ask if not annoying?
