UK Lawyers seek Justice for Hammad Raza, former aide of Chief Justice of Pakistan
Association of Pakistani Lawyers (APL), a team of Pakistani origin lawyers, Solicitors, Barristers, Judges in UK have taken a reference of the 23 May 2007 murder of Hammad Raza Additional Registrar of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and has sought Chief Justice of Pakistan’s intervention in this matter in their letter of 22 April 2010 as it noted that, “ delay in administering justice with the deceased and his family ‘ and repeated a, “request for intervention through ‘human Rights Cell’ and or ‘Suo Moto’ under Art 184 powers as the above named is without justice”.
APL has copied their correspondence to Prime Minister , Chief Minister and interior Minister of Pakistan in order to ensure justice with Mr. Raza and his wife and in laws who hails from Rochdale, Northwest of England. Mr. Raza’s wife is currently in Pakistan.
AL wrote that , “Syed Hamad Raza was born in Sharaqpur district Shekhupura central Punjab on 9 Jan 1970. He did his Masters in International Relations from Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad with gold medal and later passed competition exam to join government civil service. He was a close confidant of the suspended Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, and served as his virtual staff officer until his gruesome murder on May 14, 2007. While Pakistani police is still investigating his murder, it is widely believed that he was target killed because he had refused to cooperate with authorities for providing False evidence which would incriminate Justice Chaudhry in the wake of the ongoing judicial crisis in Pakistan”.
APL demanded in their letter that, “ We wish your intervention, so that responsible persons identifiable through witnesses could be brought to justice. As requested above, as you have kindly taken action on it but 3 November emergency hindered unfinished business and We wish your kind intervention so that an honest investigation takes place and those truly responsible for the alleged murder could be brought to justice. APL again reiterate that a credible investigation under Supreme Court Judge directing all investigating institutions likely to have the know how is the way forward to close the question permanently otherwise this unsolved mystery will frustrate the process of seeking justice. Kindly direct that a fair investigation is conducted to address the concerns alleged by Mr. Hammad Raza’s family”.
