Dead animal meat being supplied to Lahorites

LAHORE - About 30 per cent of the meat being supplied to the Lahorites is of dead or sick animals, laboratory tests conducted on meat samples collected from the slaughterhouses and cold stores at Kot Kamboh has revealed.
A special team of the city district government comprising senior health and veterinary officials inspected slaughterhouses and cold storage centres at Kot Kamboh recently and collected 14 samples of meat.
These samples were sent to the WTO-Quality Operation Laboratory, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences for microbiological tests to determine their suitability for human consumption. Out of the collected 14 meat samples, three were found of dead animals, one of semi-dead and 10 of normal animals. The inspection team also found sick animals at two government regulated and one private slaughterhouses at Kot Kamboh. The team also found unstamped meat and that of dead animals also at the cold store. As the slaughterhouses and cold store falls under the jurisdiction of Iqbal Town Municipal Administration, the inspectors directed the officials concerned to take appropriate action.
Medical experts have expressed concern over supply of sick and dead animals in the city.
