President's appeal

PRESIDENT Musharraf's appeal to the liberal and moderate sections of society to galvanise their efforts to stem the tide of extremism in the country comes as a whiff of fresh air. Ever since Gen Ziaul Haq seized power in 1977 and gave a fillip to the religious extremist elements, this country has been plagued by a growing trend towards religious obscurantism. This has been an unfortunate development, especially in view of the fact that a majority of Pakistanis, who were tolerant and moderate in their approach to Islam and other religions, have now come under the influence of bigots. Extremism bred by Ziaul Haq for his ulterior political motives has had a dual impact on Pakistani society. First, it has encouraged militancy and intolerance among people with a religious bent of mind. Secondly, it has led to political and social polarisation in the country.

Had President Musharraf not egged on the extremists for his own political reasons, Pakistani society of the post-Zia years would have ultimately returned to a healthy balance. It is a pity that under the two military rulers, the religious extremists, who could previously operate only on the sidelines and never enjoyed electoral support, managed to enter mainstream politics and gain power. Now that the damage has been done President Musharraf has chosen to appeal to the moderates to work for the electoral victory of his liberal party. Was it not President Musharraf who tried to marginalise the moderates because he felt threatened by their call for return to a democratic system based on the rule of law, social justice and economic egalitarianism? For President Musharraf it is an expedient change of track. No doubt, the country's salvation lies in leaders of the state and society adopting the middle road of moderation. If the president has truly converted to the cause of moderation, it is inevitable that the moderates will find themselves in the same camp as he. But does he realise that moderation and liberalism do not simply mean confronting the extremists? They also mean upholding the political, economic and judicial principles a democratic society stands for.

Malaysia still not have Islamic Shariah and Economic system in practice. I don't say against education or technology BUT what worth MBA/Engineering degree has in front of Allah(faisal_kalee
Dear All,
Assalam-o-Alaikum,

Dear Abdul RahmanIf there were no tests in Islam? I think you see it only from worldly benefits. Malaysia still not have Islamic Shariah and Economic system in practice. I don't say against education or technology BUT what worth MBA/Engineering  degree has in front of Allah SWT? Will it save us that day? Will this Secular system Save us? Democracy is counting only not weighing while Khilafat is weighing character by religious seniors, just counting brings all we had since beginning the black sheeps in politics.

(Hadith Al-Tirmidhi, No: 173, Narrator: Sahl ibn Sa'id as-Sa'idi)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If in the sight of Allah the world had the value equal to that of the wing of a mosquito, He would not have allowed a disbeliever even to drink a mouthful of water out of it.

Extremism is the name put on those who say the Law and Order of Allah SWT should be imposed superior to all other orders/wishes. As many places Quran says: "There is no command but of Allah SWT"

Islam should be at all levels, Personal, Society and State.

Just answer me; can you bring your 1400 years later moderate mind parallel to Prophet Muhammad PBUH?

(Hadith Al-Bukhari, No: 9.384, Narrator: Abu Huraira)
Allah's Apostle said, "All my followers will enter Paradise except those who refuse." They said, "O Allah's Apostle! Who will refuse?" He said, "Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me is the one who refuses (to enter it)."

You are also talking against Quran that Women Equality...? ?? Islam distributes rights very well; but not equal in all matters as this fitnah nowadays is...? (goto ref:  Surah An-Nisaa, Verse: 34)

If you criticize Beard, Veil, 4 Marriages, These are basics and from QURAN and SUNNAH...???

Definitely Makkah & Madina remained a central in the time of Prophet PBUH and his companions, 4 Caliphs R.A. etc. and Inshallah in future again when Hazrat Mehdi comes (he would belong to Madina also). If Quran is forever then it's real implementation example as of Prophet Muhammad PBUH is forever. And his habits and ways are authenticated and loved by Allah SWT.

think president Musharaf is like those who deny the follow-up of Sunnah because he openly says against the order of Prophet Muhammad PBUH as in case of Beard listened on TV, against veils, his dirty Moderation. The worst of this man is, they are not only in sin (by allowing) but promoting to damage that basic character on which faith is built. A new colour of media is out now.

(Hadith Al-Muwatta, Vol:47, No: 9)
Yahya related to me from Malik from Salama ibn Safwan ibn Salama az-Zuraqi that Zayd ibn Talha ibn Rukana, who attributed it to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'Every deen has an innate character. The character of Islam is modesty.' "

I feel these so-called religious parties in elections are sold cows, greedy of chairs. To change the system you need REVOLUTION like Prophet PBUH brought not just slogans. What they were able to do when in provinces with such heavy mandate?

My Choice is enlightened Extremism not the darken Moderation.

(Surah Al-Mataffifin, Verse: 29 & 34)
Those in sin used to laugh at those who believed (34) But on this Day the Believers will laugh at the Unbelievers

Regards,
Faisal Kaleem

Can you tell me what is wrong if we try to become like Malaysia.(rehab_kb@yahoo. com)
The question is not of Syed Pervez Musharraf. He is irrelevant in this question.
The question is what you will do in the elections 2007. Do you want Pakistan to go 1400 years back or do you want to take Pakistan in the future.

Can you tell me what is wrong if we try to become like Malaysia.

Do you think they are less Muslims, Is there any corruption, look at their development, look at their women having freedom as well as their modesty, look at their broad mindedness and high level of education.

They have achieved all this by following the teachings of Muhammed's Islam.

But for you, Islam only revolves arround whether the shalwar is above ankle or not, What is the lenght of beard, Shuttle cock Burqa is must fo women. your main concern is to justify men's 4 marriages and how to keep women behind walls or under veils.

For you talking about Education, Science, democracy, human rights, women's equality means it is against Prophet Muhammed's Islam.
Please come out from the past this is 2006.

we dont want talibinisation , we want islimization of pakistan, so far there is not much diffrence between muslims of Pakistan & India, whats the use of pakistan ? why did we built pakistan only & only for Islam, to practice & implement Islam, besides this there is not much diffrence between do,s & dont of muslims of pakistan & india.

Islam should be everywhere in personal life as well as social life ,

Our financial institutions are based on intrest
Our media is advertising women physics like any other
Our judicial system is purely based on English laws rather then laws of Islam brign in chor ka hath katoo , phir dekhoo mobile kon snatch karta ha .
Our Army is afraid to fight its even more coward then politicians.
We have no dignity, our National heros are insulted by our govt in public only for US
We are fighting a war for Americans, & killing our own muslims brothers who did us no harm at all.
these are some concern of mine but the list is long i can go on forever.

you tell me now ? what you want ? the USzation of pakistan ? if yes then yes then current pakistan is your pakistan. our General is acting as the governer of Bush govt.

if the extremists managed to win in this struggle then, in his view, “the Quaid-i-Azam’ s Pakistan will be no more”.
By Our Special Correspondent

ISLAMABAD, Oct 11: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday outlined what he called the future course of Pakistani politics, and asked the liberal and moderate sections of society to galvanize their efforts to stem the growing wave of extremism in the country.

“The future of Pakistan lies in the tussle between the moderates and extremists” and “we’ll have to work together to make sure the moderates emerge victorious”, he told a large gathering of journalists. And then he went on to warn that if the extremists managed to win in this struggle then, in his view, “the Quaid-i-Azam’ s Pakistan will be no more”.

President Musharraf has often in the past painted a scenario of such a conflict, but this was by far the most forceful articulation of his argument. He not only talked about the worst case scenario in case the religious extremists were successful, but also indirectly hinted at the possibility of convergence of liberal and moderate political groups, including the PPP, to meet the challenge
