PAKISTAN: A POLITICIZED BOMBING IN KARACHI

Summary

A day after a suicide bombing in the Pakistani capital city of Islamabad, a series of explosions hit Pashtun-dominated areas of the port city of Karachi on July 7. While the Islamabad bombing indicates the growing jihadist problem in Pakistan, the Karachi blasts appear to be about strengthening Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's hold on power.

Analysis
A day after Pakistan's capital city Islamabad was rocked by a deadly suicide bombing, a series of small blasts struck the port city of Karachi on July 7. The attacks occurred within a span of one hour in Pashtun-dominated areas of north and central Karachi. The devices, which appear to have been crude, killed two people and injured around 50 others, prompting small-scale riots.

The Islamabad suicide bombing is yet another indicator of Pakistan's intensifying jihadist problem. By contrast, the Karachi attacks appear to be more about Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's political survival than anything else.

Musharraf is still in the political hot seat, with his political opponents regularly calling for his removal either through an honorable exit or through an impeachment trial. Nonetheless, the beleaguered president still has staying power mainly due to severe political infighting in the newly elected civilian government and his success in packing Pakistan's Supreme Court with allies to block any legal attempts to remove him from power.

To further secure his political position, Musharraf can rely on his friends in the Mutahiddah Qaumi Movement (MQM), a Muhajir political party that long has been the kingmaker of Pakistan's main port city and closely allied with Musharraf. The MQM has no shortage of political thugs to serve Musharraf's political agenda. The group dominates the organized crime sector in Karachi's ports and has been known to instigate ethnic riots and organize large pro-Musharraf demonstrations in the past.

The July 7 attacks targeted the poor segment of Karachi's Pashtun population -- a popular target for the MQM's attempts to stir up  ethnic unrest in Karachi. By playing the MQM card, Musharraf can demonstrate to his political opponents in the government that he remains the king of Karachi through his ties with the MQM, and without him, the country's largest trading hub could fall into chaos.

The MQM, meanwhile, has its own reason to play along with Musharraf's political maneuvers. The Feb. 18 general elections gave Musharraf's opponents -- the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz -- an overwhelming victory, putting the Musharraf-allied MQM in the opposition. With Musharraf in power, the MQM retains political clout in the government. But if Musharraf gets the boot, MQM leaders would have to start from scratch in buying political influence among the government's leading parties. Through intimidation tactics in Karachi, the MQM can signal that it is still a political force to be reckoned with.

While this political wrangling is certainly not atypical for Pakistan, it comes at a most precarious time. Pakistan is already approaching a crisis point as the jihadist insurgency continues to spiral out of control. Stoking ethnic unrest in Karachi for political reasons exacerbates the security dilemma confronting the state and provides a greater opportunity for the jihadists to strike.

I do not understand who are these elements? That have been hiding in Pakistan and killing the innocent people of Pakistan without any reason.Pakistan is on the verge of destroying even than the common people do not have any interest regarding this issue. But it is the responsibility of the political parties and leaders to make them aware of the conditions so that they can also play their part in the battle against suicide bombers.I pray these kind of elements should not be present in Pakistan.....Pakistan Zindabad!

Dear All Pakistanis( except cowardice Mohajirs and MQM Mafia)

We should objectively analyze situation and decide based on concrete informations:

1. Punjab is now a heaven on earth after shahbaz as chief minister. No crimes, no load shedding, no bomb blasting, justice at the door step of poors, free education , free health care. What else one should ask more? Note that the flour is sold at fifty percent less price than rest of pakistan.

2. Pakhtoon khawa formerly NWFP soon will become Sharia compliant state and all Taliban will rule on it, an OFFICIAL AGREEMENT BY THE GOVERNMENT AND TALIBAN has been signed already. SO NO PROBLEMS THERE AS WELL, ALL IS WELL AND PATHANS BROTHERS SISTERS WILL PROSPER in the rule of talibans.

3. BALOCHISTAN: the only state in the world where there is no opposition, just imagine harmony and reconcilliation in there----NO PROBLEMS ABSOLUTELY

4. SINDH is pefectly running welll under the chief ministership of Qaim Ali Shah, except karachi

Therefore we all expatats and patriots should join hands in hand to get rid of Karachi the menace and ALTAF MAFIA. All Pakistanis should play their role in kicking the karachi in the arabian sea.

Secondly, all karachi urdu speaker community should be granted death sentence by drowing into sea for voting to MQM the Black Mafia. Jamat Islami and Tehrik Insaf should also kick urud speakers frm their ranks, because this community is the worst community on the face of earth. Remember what Maulana Romi said once

"Awal Indian, dosra Kimboh, teesra badzaat Mohajir""

This is a misconception that Karach is for all and whole Pakistan has invested in here. Thats wrong, the whole investment from rest of the Pakistan has been moved to Punjab and GadoonAmazai after MQM took hold of the city. today the investment is from DAWOOD IBRAHIM the adopted son of ISI and other international terrorists and smugglers.

Karachi urdu speaking and MQM has become a cancer for the SINDH Province.

Thanks to more than 6 millions pathans who are struggling against them, the second largest nation in Sind after 7 million Sindhi( Ref: ShahiSayyed ANP Karachi chief on july 3 in national papers).

As far as punjabis are concerned they have born hatred from karachi and will happily be opting to go back to Punjab, the Heaven on Earth.

So, to all lovers of Pakistan, please float the idea of drowning Karachi and its Mohajir community to the Arabian Sea and lets make a BETTER PAKISTAN expelling karachi from its map

LONG BAITULLAH MAHSOOD--THE MUJAHID and SAVIOUR

Please dont forget to sign the petition to depose ALTAF and hand over MQM to Sir Imran Farooq.

p.s: please be aware from poisonous writers like Khalid Masood Khan of daily Jang ( ref his article in Jang dated 11 july 2008). He is a urdu speaking agent of MQM Punjab and poisioning PML N govt.

DEAR COLUMNIST

You should be ashamed of what you wrote, its all lies and bundle of plunders. You seem to be the agent of MQM MAFIA, ALTAF AND MUSH THE MENANCE.

You have tried to undermine the efforst of the govt by giving fabricated statistics, and you know it very well, what ever you write how could one get to verify it.

for example, you stock market things, everybody know that it gained points in the second half of the year 2007, and reached over 15000 points. It was all because MQM mafia and its smugglers and terrorist business men investement from outside pakistan. They have now withdrawn their investment and so the points have dropped. Its good for the country that the smugglers are running to save themsleves.

We dont want stock exchange to play over 5000 points with smuggling money. We are happy with wat it was 5 years back, the clean , halal and legal points of 2500/ around.

Please dont destroy the tranquility and the peace in the country by writing this kind of false and fabricated columns.

The recent is the work of the CITY NAZIM's gunda group the community police,,the latest gunda gardi and badmashi mafia in karachi,,,thats y we claim

DROWN KARACHI AND MOHAJIRS IN ARABIAN SEA
