who can develop Pakistan and steer it out of our problems be it via

If you are alluding to Musharraf's
cooperation with USA. Then, tell me how different is Zardari in this
regard? If you are referring to his crackdown on extremist elements,
then I agree that he could have used more wisdom. At the same time, I
will tell you that I have NO knowledge of what went on. We don't know
who he exactly targeted and why? Were they really innocent muslims? Or
were they fooled by the CIA's assets called Pakistani Taliban (Betullah
Masood and Mullah Fazlullah).
It is very easy to pass judgements
sitting comfortably in our houses. When you are on the ground, the
realities of the time can make a man of the strongest conviction make
mistakes.
It is the intention that counts. If Ulema make mistakes in
fatwa and that fatwa turns out to be a failure practically, then the
alim is not punished because his intentions were for the good of the
ummah and that he made a mistake because of being human (an imperfect
being with no unlimited knowledge or power).
As far as making
riches is concerned, again you provide no proof but just conjecture. I
am not asking you to show me his account but some news item or a
statement from a man of honor (like Sattar Eidhi) which can be
corroborated. Even if Musharraf is guilty of some level of corruption,
I forgive him because he has given a LOT more back to the country.

The February elections were staged. Now, it seems more plausible that all the circumstances in 2007 leading to Musharraf's ouster were staged. My gut feeling was telling me that opponents of Musharraf are just giving him a hard time and creating issues after issues to make his life more and more difficult. I have always doubted the sincerity of Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry. I had this feeling that this guy was probably from PPP or PML(N) and is creating issues to make Musharraf unpopular. Violla, little research revealed that this guy was from PPP and was close to Benazir Bhutto. I was appalled at the behaviour of the Pakistani media, specially GEO, Asma Jehangir, Imran Khan and Hamid Mir who kept raising slogans against Musharraf for "democracy". I started doubting their intelligence and maturity because they didn't show any. They were making it sound like as if Musharraf's government is just the worst of the worst. They ignored COMPLETELY all the good works accomplished by Musharraf. His policy of bring change at the grass root level is the MOST realistic and practical policy. I have NEVER heard of any "democratic" leader talk of that. He was sincere.
My premise for supporting Musharraf was this. He was from a middle class / liberal family. He was NOT a wadera. He DID NOT belong to the corrupt political class. He wanted to re-write a new political system for Pakistan. He started to NAB and attempted to bring some of the wealth to Pakistan. So a guy who had such ambitions can never be without strong opposition from the same class he was fighting against. I knew that this class will use its political clout to make it difficult for Musharraf. And that is what was happening. Benazir and Zardari did the looting in such a way as to not leave any traces behind.
Musharraf then had to make alliances with the same corrupt political leadership to use some of their political clout otherwise it was not possible for him to continue the rule and continuation of his rule was the need of the day since Pakistan's topsy turvy situation takes good 25 - 30 years to fix.
Anyways, Musharraf's increasingly adamant attitude resulted in his ouster. He was the man who put Pakistan's interests first. His cooperation with USA against the war on terror was based on that principle. That is why USA wasn't happy taking Musharraf's dictation. So, they planted a more pliable government.
In retrospect, now it makes sense why all of a sudden Musharraf faced so many crisis like Geo' s belligerance, Hamid Mir and Asma Jehangir undue criticism and unhealthy fixation for democracy, Lawyer's movement, Lal Masjid issue etc. Only to make him unpopular so that his ouster can happen as soon as possible and a more pliable govenment can be installed.

Tell me how many things have changed with the current government of Zardari. The issues that YOU and Asma Jehangir had raised against Musharraf still hold true:
1) Ex-Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry remains deposed (eventhough he is the man from PPP).
2) Pakistan is lot more subservient to USA.
- We have an ambassador in USA, Hussain Haqqani who advocates US interests more efficiently than any US ambassador
- President Zardari gives Pakistan's supreme award to those foreigners who have only given us threats and rebukes.
- Pakistan takes 6 months to send an ambassador to China.
- Pakistan does not request China to veto security council resolution against her.
- Without much thinking Pakistan was willing to send the DIG of ISI to India on their orders.
- Pakistan was meek in dealing with India's aggressive attitude after 26/11
3) President Zardari has not removed the power of the president to dissolve the governments (17th amendment).
4) Durrani and other officials routinely bypass Prime minister making irresponsible statements like accepting Kassab as being a Pakistani without much evidences demanded for such a charge.
5) A group of students get Baton-Charge and tear gas when they were peacefully protesting against the Gaza bombing by Israel.
