The SC verdict is being debated widely but subjectively in the Pakistani media. Here is a view of the mainstream without party political bias. The conclusion is that the media emphasis will play an important role. If the emphasis remains on slaughtering the ‘sacred cow’, i.e. the military, there can be a mutiny in the armed forces. If the emphasis shifts to punishing or disqualifying surviving recipients of tainted money in campaign contribution in 1990, the next elections will be deemed to be rigged in favour of the char chore (four parties in the ruling coalition) and the events of 1977 being repeated. If the emphasis shifts to changing (by resignation or removal) of the President and the present Governors, a popular, stable and legitimate government would be formed and a new era of peace and prosperity might begin.
