At the time of partition of the subcontinent, imperialist forces instead of recognizing the independent status of the princely states asked them to either join India or Pakistan. However, to keep Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan deprived of their political rights and subjugated, they put their issues into the cold storage which still remain unresolved.

Unfortunately, incidents of target killings have again started in the Gilgit city though the local police, as usual, claimed that they have rounded up the accused persons along with the weapons used in the crime and shifted them to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
