Forgive & Forget by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

As expected Syeda Waheeda Shah has been forgiven by the lady teacher Shugufta for assaulting and slapping the latter while performing her duties as the Presiding Officer at a polling station. It is not known whether the wretched lady teacher has forgiven her out of compassion, compensation, coercion or intimidation? In any case, in this land of the pure how can a poor teacher stand up to a mighty Click here to read Full Article
Kohistan Killings by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)
Posted By: Riaz On: 29/Feb/2012 Views:1529 Replies:0
Surprisingly the horrendous killings of Kohistan has not evoked the kind of condemnation it warranted from the rulers or the religious parties nor did it find the type of coverage it deserved either in the electronic or the print media. That shows the state of mind of the rulers, the media and probably the people as well who have started taking such killings as a usual routine matter. Not a day Click here to read Full Article

Test Case for ECP by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

What Waheeda Shah did to the lady presiding officer of the polling station is highly deplorable and most unbecoming of a lady aspirant legislator. Contrary to her brutal behaviour and a physical crime the conduct of the lady teacher presiding officer was most honourable and dignified. She just suffered the humiliation with tears in her eyes and subdued cries on her lips. She could have also retal Click here to read Full Article
Gen. Beg and TV Reporter by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)
Posted By: Riaz On: 27/Feb/2012 Views:1336 Replies:0
A controversy is raging over the internet on the rather persistent asking of a TV reporter from the former COAS General Aslam Beg Mirza if he would return the ‘Democracy” medal given to the army by the late BB, as he had subsequently conspired to bring down the BB’s democratic government through Mehran Bank scandal. However, under the changed environs when the wind is blowing against the general, Click here to read Full Article

Senators oh Senators by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

What is 360 millions between the friends that a spate of letters have appeared in the press on ‘Senators blackmailing the government for voting for the 20th amendment’?! Don’t we all know that these funds are for the developments to be carried out by the Senators in their -- their -- well -- their respective Senates. So what Click here to read Full Article
Radio Tax by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)
Posted By: Riaz On: 24/Feb/2012 Views:1633 Replies:0
A parliamentary committee has recommended imposition of 2% Radio Tax on every recharge of the mobile phones and Rs. 30,000 to 40,000 on the purchase of new cars. It will make the PBC self reliant and stand on its own feet, says the committee. What a self reliance, one wonders, if it has to come through such an enforced indirect taxation on the hapless people of this country? Who in any case in Click here to read Full Article

Mian Nawaz Shareef was shown giving away a laptop to a girl student in Multan while distributing laptops among the talented students there. (Pakistan Observer Feb 8th) . I don’t know in what capacity he was doing that? Again an expensive half page ad in Urdu daily Jang carries prominently the picture of Mian Nawaz Shareef with a message that the MLN Quaid will distribute the laptops in Mul Click here to read Full Article
PTV Fees by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)
Posted By: Riaz On: 5/Feb/2012 Views:1729 Replies:0
Every domestic consumer of electricity is charged Rs. 35/= per month as the PTV Fees and the commercial consumers Rs. 50/= or even more. There are millions and millions of such electricity consumers throughout the country who are forced to pay the said fees which I am sure must be accruing billions to the PTV on this count only apart from the money it would be making from the commercials it airs. The PPPP Mandate by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

The PPP regime which is in fact NOT the PPP but the PPPP (Parliamentarians) regime - remember? the PPP did not take part in the general elections of 2008 - is never tired of haranguing about the 5 year mandate given to it by the hundred seventy million people (satra karor awaam). Surprisingly, they are not the only one to make this tall claim but every other political party declares so, as if Paki Click here to read Full Article
PM’s SHO by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

A front page head lines of The News of today reads, “Whatever the memo verdict, SHO will be assigned by me, says PM”. What a statement coming from the highest executive of the country and what has a thanedar ( SHO) got to do with the Memogate except that he may be instrumental in implementing the judicial verdict ?! Frankly, what kind of message is the PM trying to give and to who? Is it not a Click here to read Full Article
