Imran Speech by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

It was disappointing to see Imran Khan using street language while addressing a rally that PTI had staged at Karachi in support of the CJP. It was unbecoming the stature of a person aspiring to be a national leader. Insinuating President Zardari he said that he had taken a Punga that would ultimately spell his doom worse than Musharraf. I wonder if he knows that Punga is an outright unparliamen Click here to read Full Article

While the nation is engrossed and embroiled in all kinds of depressing stories about various corruption scandals and scams, unemployment, inflation and poverty etc. telling upon the health of most of us, could someone tell me the secret of the ever growing girth of the Maulanas? According to a news report Zimbabwe has issued a 100 Trillion dollar currency bill. Wow ! I cannot even count the number of zeros in 100 trillion let alone carry 100 trillion Zimbabwean One dollar bills in my purse or on my person. That makes me think how easy it would be there to pass on 100 trillions under the table to grease someone’s palm. No wonder most corruption free countries do not have Click here to read Full Article

Asma’s Assassination by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

According to a news report the Ministry of Defence spokesman has expressed concern that Ms Asma Jahangir – a senior Supreme Court lawyer and human rights activist - has publicly accused the intelligence agencies of plotting to assassinate her. This is a very serious allegation for which she instead of articulating over the media should lodge a proper complaint in a court of law and provide the Click here to read Full Article
A Judge and the Son: by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)
Posted By: Riaz On: 6/Jun/2012 Views:1652 Replies:0
Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Ch has embarked on a path that not many in the annals of the entire history of the mankind have dared to tread upon. He has taken suo-moto notice of the allegations making rounds against his own very son Arsalan Chaudhry. The hardest part of the melodrama is that the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan would himself be heading the bench hearing the allegations again Click here to read Full Article

Qaraquls and Maulanas by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

Both Qazi Hussain Ahmad and Syed Munnawar Hassan of JI wear expensive qaraqul (Persian Lamb) caps as part of their normal headgear. Qaraqul fur is said to be obtained by a cruel process of skinning an aborted unborn lamb of a special breed of sheep in Afghanistan which is butchered to remove the unborn lamb foetuses from its womb to skin it. Some ulema consider it a cruel and atrocious act Click here to read Full Article
Moderation and Pakistan by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

It requires larger than a man to admit one's follies. Let's try as a nation to rise to those heights and confess that we did err in "over-Islamising" Pakistan and that too quite unwarrantedly. This has unfortunately given birth to religious polarisation and sectarianism tearing at the very fibre of our national unity. There was no need for it at all. We were Muslims before and would remain Muslims Click here to read Full Article

Corruption & Vertical Alignment by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

Some time back the Interior Minister resolved to eradicate corruption within seven days. A news item appearing in this context said that the head of the department concerned would also be held equally responsible for the corruption indulged by any of his subordinates. Though it may sound somewhat unreasonable yet, that's the way to deal with the corruption found so rampant now a days in the office Click here to read Full Article
An Innocent Question by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

Last evening at the unscheduled power outage my 9 year old grandson who was preparing for his final exams shouted, “Oh God, what should I do now”? And, then turning to me asked innocently, “Does it also happen in Zardari and Gilani houses, how do their children prepare for the exams?” Click here to read Full Article

No Appeal by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)
Posted By: Riaz On: 27/May/2012 Views:1561 Replies:0
The Prime Minister has decided not to file the appeal against his conviction by the SC after the ruling of the Speaker to not to send his case to the Election Commission. Apparently, the PM has been advised by his legal experts not to take the risk in filing the appeal lest the SC spells out clearly his dismissal and ineligibility to be an MNA in unequivocal and unambiguous terms in deciding the Click here to read Full Article
Apologise Obama by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

Though I didn’t have much love lost for Bilawal but he has certainly earned my respect for his daring Obama to show courage and apologise to Pakistan for their Salala dirty adventure. Being challenged by so young a person must have come as a big rude shock to Barack Hussein Obama but Bilawal has spoken for the millions of Pakistanis. And the sooner the U.S. administration realises this the better Click here to read Full Article
