Agha Siraj Durrani – the Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, according to a news report, has ordered installation of mobile jammers in the Assembly Hall as the cell phones of the august members of the assembly keep ringing thus distracting the proceedings of the assembly. Strange, and to me such an expenditure on the jammers would be totally unwarranted and a sheer waste of the public money. For, I do Click here to read Full Article

The Two PMs at the UN by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

The two pictures below of the two PMs at the UN speak volumes about their international standing. I am sure had MNS known of the sparse audience that he would attract at the UN General Assembly, he would have certainly not undertaken the tour and that too along with his reported cooks, drivers and maids of the first lady that would have saved MILLIONS to the national exchequer. But I suppose Wa Click here to read Full Article
Eidgah and Eid Prayers BY Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

I have to admit my poor knowledge of religious matters and would, therefore, ask the more knowledgeable to shed some light on it. The Holy Prophet (SAWAW) used to offer Eid prayers in the open at the outskirts of the city – Medina – as it offered more space than the Masjid e Nabvi for all and more people to congregate there for the occasion. This institution came to be known as Eid Gah and was Click here to read Full Article

The Holy Prophet in his Khutba tul Vida said, “ All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black, nor a black has any superiority over a white- except by piety and good action.” He (SAWAW) couldn’t have described more beautifully the EQUALITY of all mankind. Then how come we, Click here to read Full Article

In March 1969 burning of a private transport bus by the students of the Polytechnic School, Rawalpindi, led by the then student rebel rouser Shaikh Rashid was a minor incident from the present day standards, but it made President Ayub Khan” decide to resign. Khawaja Shahabuddin – his cabinet minister, advised him against it saying, “ Sir, just hold a referendum and you will see that the people Click here to read Full Article

SUCCESSIVE floatation of OGDCL`s shares in the past decade or so has left it with 75pc holding of which 10pc is again being floated `in the shortest possible time` as okayed by the cabinet committee. As though we all have short memory or are preoccupied by sit-ins, Merrill Lynch International and Citigroup are back again for some lucrative business. The PPP government`s dole-out of the Qadipur gas Click here to read Full Article

The promotion of six Major Generals to the next higher rank on the retirement of five Lieutenant Generals on their reaching the age of superannuation, which is just a routine matter in the army has created a furore in the media especially the electronic media to the degree where most news analysts and anchors feel obliged to cast their pearls of wisdom through their ignorant and pardon my saying Click here to read Full Article
