Can it be true about HAARP?

Harp, some pronounce it as HAARP, is a large triangular musical instrument played with the fingers. I heard it the first time in North Wales, when a young Welsh harpist tactfully transmitted its captivating vibratory music mixing it with her sweet lyrical voice in a Welsh folklore. Whilst researching for my last article, ‘Nature is angry: so is the public’, I kept on stumbling on the word HAARP and my memory kept bouncing back to Wales, until I browsed through ‘Angels Don't Play This HAARP’ by Begich and Manning, and read write-ups by notables like Mr Zbigniew Brzezinski, I realised there was no sweet music in this particular Haarp. The harsh information about this HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program) started to emerge gradually. Mr. Brzezinski predicted in the early 1970’s, about a more ‘controlled and directed society’ dominated by an elite group which would impress voters by superior scientific know-how. HAARP is one of the products of that know-how, which is compared with a cobweb by a scientist stating that “HAARP will be a man-made microwave finger poking at the web, sending out confusing signals, if not tearing holes in the threads.”

In recent months, Governor Jesse Ventura, an ex navy seal and a well-liked ex professional wrestler also got suspicious of HAARP. He used his resources and prepared a documentary in which he is seen visiting its site at Gakona, Alaska and finding that it is jointly funded by the US Air Force, the US Navy, the University of Alaska and the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). He interviewed serious researchers and experts such as Dr. Michel Chossudovsky of the University of Ottawa, Dr. Nick Begich of Alaska and others. His finding was an eye-opener. The HAARP patents were originally controlled by ARCO Power Technologies Incorporated (APTI), a subsidiary of Atlantic Richfield Company, one of the biggest oil companies in the world. ARCO sold it to E-Systems in June 1994 which is one of the biggest intelligence contractors in the world working for the CIA, defence intelligence organizations and others. $1.8 billion of their annual sales are to these organizations, with $800 million for black projects -- projects so secret that even the United States Congress isn't told how the money is being spent.

On the surface, the facility has a high power, high-frequency phased array radio transmitter with a set of 180 antennas, disposed in a display of 12x15 units that occupy a rectangle of about 33 acres. It consists of; Ionospheric Research Instrument (IRI)--a high power radio frequency transmitter operating in the high frequency (HF) band; and a sophisticated suite of scientific (or diagnostic) instruments. The former is used to temporarily excite a limited area of the ionosphere by directing pulsed or continuous 3.6 MW signals in the 2,8-10 MHz region of HF band; and the latter to observe the effects in the excited region by using associated instrumentation, including VHF and UHF radars, HF receivers, and optical cameras.

The project proponents give an impression that the purpose of the project is to analyze the ionosphere and investigate the potential for developing ionospheric enhancement technology for radio communications and surveillance purposes. It is nothing more sinister than a radio science research facility that would enable scientists to develop techniques to improve the reliability and performance of communication and navigation systems with wide range of applications in both the civilian and military sectors. It would increase accuracy in GPS navigation and help in underwater and underground research work. It would also improve methods for submarine communication and the ability to remotely sense the mineral content of the terrestrial subsurface and help in geophysical probing to find oil, gas and mineral deposits over a large area. If that is true, then why it is run by the air force and the navy? And why there is so much secrecy about it?

The truth is that it is not the first time the facts have been hidden by the ‘elite group’ (in Brzezinski’s word) from the American public. There are many examples of major defence projects kept successfully out of the public’s eyes for years and even decades. The massive Manhattan Project (development of the first atomic bomb) is one such example. The building of an entire city to support the project in Oak Ridge, Tennessee was successfully kept secret even from the state’s governor. Similarly, the stealth bomber was kept top secret for many years, and the public still has no way of knowing its full capabilities. One can go on and on.

Coming back to the topic at hand, it is imperative to know that HAARP is concentrating on ionosphere which is the delicate upper layer of our atmosphere ranging from 30 miles to 600 miles above the surface of the Earth. The work on the current HAARP station began in 1993 and was completed in 2007. Some respected researchers allege that secret electromagnetic warfare capabilities of HAARP are designed to forward the US military’s stated goal of achieving full-spectrum dominance by the year 2020. Others go so far as to claim that HAARP can and has been used for weather modification, to cause earthquakes and tsunamis, to disrupt global communications systems, and much more such as controlling minds.

It was this aspect of the project which terrified Ventura. He tried a small version of the technology on himself and by fixing the instrument to his skin he heard messages without using his natural hearing channel-his ears! Its implications frightened him. He understood the vast scope of this technology’s use or misuse in psy-warfare. Writing on the subject matter more than twenty-five years ago, as a professor at Columbia University, Mr Brzezinski once said, "Political strategists are tempted to exploit research on the brain and human behaviour. Geophysicist Gordon J.F. MacDonald, a specialist in problems of warfare, says accurately-timed, artificially-excited electronic strokes could lead to a pattern of oscillations that produce relatively high power levels over certain regions of the earth ... in this way one could develop a system that would seriously impair the brain performance of very large populations in selected regions over an extended period” He further wrote, “... no matter how deeply disturbing the thought of using the environment to manipulate behaviour for national advantages, to some, the technology permitting such use will very probably develop within the next few decades." He was so right; three decades later, HAARP is here.

Related research by Begich and Manning shows its mental-disruption possibilities are most disturbing. For example, Air Force documents revealed that a system has been developed for manipulating and disturbing human mental processes through pulsed radio-frequency radiation over large geographical areas. Thus it can be used in many military or quasi-military situations, such as dealing with terrorist groups, crowd control, controlling breaches of security at military installations, and antipersonnel techniques in tactical warfare by producing mild to severe physiological disruption, perceptual distortion or disorientation. To top it all, the ability of individuals to function can be degraded making them combat-ineffective and even enhancing their abilities to anomalous phenomena."  What this could actually mean is anybody’s guess?

Dr. Michel Chossudovsky, Dr. Nick Begich and other scientists have presented evidence that purposeful ionospheric disturbances can cause tsunamis, hurricanes and earthquakes by creating geomagnetic storms. Some researchers say that as a weapon, its directed energy can blast enemy missiles out of the sky, or be used to blind soldiers on the battlefield, or control an unruly crowd by burning the surface of their skin. If detonated over a large city, it would permanently destroy all the electronic tools in buildings. It does it by bending back powerful radio waves through processes of reflection and refraction onto earth and penetrating everything - living and dead.

Finally, looking at HAARP’s global and regional implications (not to mention its individual insinuations) how can one ignore the possibility of it been linked to recent floods in Pakistan, which were so disproportionate to the rains. Or how can one not tie it with hurricane Katarina, Indonesian Tsunami, Haiti earthquake, Russian heat waves, Chinese mudslides, North Korean flooding and for that matter the earthquake in northern Pakistan. According to the news, a  report prepared for Prime Minister Putin by Russia’s foreign military intelligence directorate (GRU) states that a former top United States Senator, Ted Stevens, was recently assassinated (he was killed in a plane crash) after he attempted to gather evidence to prove the devastating effects of “weather weapons” against the world. Is it the beginning of the popping of the soap-bubble-like ionosphere surrounding the earth which according to Dr. Rauscher has created a delicate balance in our planet, through weather weapons like HAARP?

According to its advocates, worries about HAARP are product of the conspiracy theorist mindset. If for a moment, we accept it as true; then how can we explain the CBC documentary which showed that it wasn’t the conspiracy theorists that expressed their concerns about HAARP; in January, 1999, the EU passed a resolution calling for more information on its health and environmental risks calling for examination of its legal, ecological and ethical implications by an international independent body. Were they all conspiracy theorists? 

The question pops up again; can all this be true about HAARP?
