US Hikaru Nakamura Wins 2011 India (Tata Steel) Chess
All the strenuous efforts of Indian corporate sector to boost the image of Indian chess, originally assisted and promoted by the Russians as part of support for NAN countries, during the cold war, have gone into the thin air as Hikaru Nakamura of the USA took the 10,000-euro first prize in the 73rd Tata Steel Tournament in New Delhi after an exciting scramble for the top spot in the final round of the annual Wijk-aan-Zee chess spectacular Sunday. Last year’s world champion V Anando (of India born Spanish citizen) finished second, half a point behind Nakamura, to earn 7,000 euros. World’s number one chess champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway came next.
Hikaru Nakamura of the USA finished with 9 points, emerged as the winner of the elite section of the Steel chess tournament in the Netherlands. Rather than act like a wallflower and try not to lose, Nakamura played aggressively, even offering to sacrifice an exchange (a rook for a bishop). The tournament winner explained his “manner of playing chess has changed” of late. The US Japanese said “I have become more serious about chess. No more 2.Qh5, no more crazy openings for me. My results have improved. Hopefully, I can keep it going. I hope to break 2800 by the end of this year”.
Nakamura, going into the final round with a lead on Anando, was pitted with black in a Ben Oni against China’s Wang Hao, who handled the opening in an unusual way to obtain a slight edge. The advantage didn’t last for long, however. Fifteen moves into the game, Nakamura evened out and seven moves later, a draw was agreed. Russian Garry Kasparov, the former world champion, was effusive, saying Nakamura’s result was perhaps even better than any tournament performance by Bobby Fischer, the former world champion, and maybe the best in more than 100 years.
It is ridiculous that Indian media, especially the TV channels that blast the news when an Indian origin or born wins a small game anywhere in the world. IN fact about the Tata chess tournament Indian media were reporting in the beginning when they had high hopes of India mafia doing some "miracle" but as the Indian origin Anando began falling behind others, Indian TVs lost interest and stopped reporting the latest on Tata. This is in fact the usual attitude of India. While criticizing USA for catching Indians enjoying life there and fixing”collar' in the legs as a punishment, the Indian media perhaps had no time to report the lose of Anando in New Delhi. Poor Anado, he lost his face.
When people play more seriously, the weak ones get defeated and nullified. Nakamura has proved that point in India. One is not very sure the Tata would continue with such tournaments if foreigners are to win comfortable against Indian interests. India has some other "open" tournament sin other sports too all started when Indians were being promoted as a "terror victim"- although India pretended ot be a terror victim while in fact promoting state terrorism in India and Jammu Kashmir. . Now the situation has changed and world knows that India as a part of global state terrorism (GST) that includes NATO terror syndicates led by US-UK terror twins, Israel and others.
If terror India, victim India, continues to lose in cricket and hockey and other sports, perhaps, Indian fanatic media would soon say the sports are not good at all - at least for India!
Of course, Indian mindset, responsible for terror policies is extremely difficult to comprehend in a comprehensive manner.
Fortunately, Pakistan is not competing with India in many areas of sports, including Chess to make Indian mafia to go all out for a win!
