Fall of Mubarak: Egypt yet to be Liberated!
Foreign Policy of Egypt-6
Dr. Abdul Ruff
ONE
With the fall of the Mubarak regime, the power of popular will has been literally imposed in Egypt but real freedom in Egypt cannot be achieved without placing a credible popular government in Cairo that could not be manipulated by outside powers, including USA, UK and Israel. But with a liquor dominated military regime taking over power there is no possibility that a truly Islamic system could be implemented in Egypt either, unless the people in terror uniforms are themselves inclined to appreciate the gains for Muslims from an Islamic rule. Persons without mass background and backing or record of crime and corruption should not come to power any where- not just in Egypt.
Egypt is not fully liberated as yet and the nation is also leaderless. The power vacuum could be disastrous for the nation. It is really pathetic that Egypt does not have a credible strong opposition party or leader to replace the Mubarak regime and US-Israeli combine could project two persons of their choice to the post of the president. What dictators do is to eliminate alternative leadership. Mubarak has done exactly that. Potential leaders are assassinated, exiled, or imprisoned. Moreover, anything short of a full-fledged revolution, such as the Iranian one, leaves in place a bureaucracy accustomed to business as usual. In addition, Egypt and the country’s military have grown accustomed to American support and will want the money to keep flowing. It is the flow of this money that ensures the purchase of the replacement government.
It is unfortunate that power in Egypt has been transferred from the dictators who were the operators of state terrorism to military, its key tools of state terrorism that has killed hundreds in the recent uprising alone. All this sacrifice and protest wasn't simply about the fate of one man. The demand for Mubarak's departure has been a symbol of a larger demand: the demand for democracy. All this sacrifice, all this protest, was not intended to bring about the replacement of Mubarak with a Mubarak clone. Still less, obviously, are protesters looking for a military coup or martial law, two other scenarios which were the subject of considerable speculation today. Four key demands have been constantly lifted up by protesters and opposition parties, which are essential for a credible transition to democracy: ending the arbitrary detention and harassment of journalists, human rights activists and peaceful demonstrators and freeing those who have been detained; ending the state of emergency; allowing free electoral competition in elections; and restoring full judicial supervision of elections.
The uprising in Egypt has exposed the nature of Egyptian politics controlled by the Mubarak regime for over 30 years by repressive methods denying chances for any credible opposition to function to redress the concerns of the masses. The Mubarak’s “democratic” regime has systematically destroyed the opposition in Egypt in order to perpetuate a non-stop, dictatorial, hegemonic regime. Muslim Brotherhood, the main opposition has been forced to go underground and today the USA and Israel are pushing for their own candidates to replace Mubarak. Surprisingly, the Muslim Brotherhood has not made any significant move to claim power; nor was any move from USA or UK to transfer power to this pro-Islamic political origination. Obviously, that would not suit them, either.
In fact, the issue is larger than the demands made by the demonstrators. Enough of westernism and criminalized, corrupt democracy gimmicks for Egypt. Now time is ripe to encompass the essence of Islamic faith by constitutional means. The West is not expected to talk for Islam or seek to implement Islamic faith in Muslim Egypt. They have got the pet anti-Islam agenda for Egypt. The Egyptians must beware of their hidden schemes against Islam.
US-UK led Global state terrorist (GST) syndicates, including Israel, are watching the developments in Egypt to make it suit their own interests. GST nations led by USA-UK terror twins now dictate terms to the rest of the world. The US-UK English media refuse to name at least a couple of important leaders of Egyptian opposition fearing that would be upset their own alternative plans. And USA is now using alternative term called “transition” to mean the much maligned expression of Bushdom rogues the “regime change” However, now there is a move form an interim "national unity government," representing the full range of parties, including the Muslim Brotherhood and reform-minded ruling-party functionaries through which Mubarak could control the regime.
The profound and protracted crisis of world capitalism shielded by the West is creating mass discontent in every corner of the world. The greatest fear of the ruling elite in the USA and in every other country is impact of Egypt upon western capitalism thriving on extra surplus values out of the pathos of exploited people. Events in Egypt and elsewhere have served to dash general democratic illusions as well as the belief that the military could serve as the champion of freedom. The mass uprising in Egypt will obviously serve as a spark, radicalizing workers throughout the Middle East, Africa and elsewhere.
People of oppressed nations under NATO occupation Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq must rise up against brutality of the puppet regimes controlled from Washington. Like the Egyptians, the people of these countries also must first get rid of fear complex and free themselves from the military-police-intelligence terror traps and threat perceptions espoused by the puppet regimes seeking to safeguard their own interests. Unless the peoples start trusting their own strength - instead of fate- the GST would continue to ruin their lives. .
Among the biggest losers of the Egyptian uprising are Mubarak & son, who are now almost finished with freezing of their back accounts and also the USA and Israel. Because in any free and fair election in the Middle East, a majority will vote for rulers who will distance the country from America and sever ties to Israel. Americans are hated in Arab world and elsewhere because we are perceived as hypocrites who say one thing and do another.
The Mubarak regime aided Zionist crimes in Palestine, even as Israel is deadly defending the illegal self-preservation of the Jewish state. Mubarak has protected Israel politically from demands that Tel Aviv obeys international law, stops genocides in Palestine and halts new settlements in East Jerusalem. Also, Mubarak readily worked closely with Israel in its campaign to eradicate Hamas in Gaza.
Israel, like what the USA has been doing, wants to control Egyptian foreign policy since Egypt has extensive political influence in Africa and the Middle East. The collapse of Camp David peace treaty of 1979 could lead to a better treaty that benefits Palestine. .The USA has used Egypt for GST war in Mideast and depended on the Mubarak regime to advance a number of key security interests, from artificially countering Iran to combating “terrorism”.
USA must now accept the defeat of its double-speak policy on democracy and regime change - essentially used as a gimmick to coerce the dictatorial regimes in order to help USA advance its global power. The murderous American-installed dictator in Tunis was overthrown by people taking to the streets. Rebellion has spread to Egypt and there are also street protests against the US-supported rulers in Yemen and Jordan. This clearly shows the region would not be the same a few years down the line.
Fall of Mubarak must be a signal for the Arab world and Africa for quick regime changes in favor of popular concerns. In fact every Muslim ruler in the world must realize that the countries they are ruing are not their private properties. They must obey the people’s orders and care for their concerns. Dictators and corrupt rulers in Islamic world must hand over power to the popular wings. They should not wait for USA to initiate problems for them.
Obviously, Egypt is moving towards a new policy- both domestic as well as foreign.
