Egypt & Palestine Unity-1
1. Fatah-Hamas Unity Agreement- A step forward!
DR. ABDUL RUFF
_______________
Divisions among people in occupied nations, like Palestine, Chechnya or Jammu Kashmir, work to their own disadvantages since the oppressors exploit them for further terrorizing them. The deadly blockade between the Hamas and Fatah parties, engineered by the anti-Palestine, anti-Islamic Israel-West, has complicated the process of peace talk between Israeli occupier regime- an arrogant and heavily armed even by nukes - and the defenseless Palestinians the recent years, making the Israeli fascist expansionist agenda pretty easier.
USA skillfully uses the disunity in and among Muslim nations to its own advantages. The Obama regime offers the world the illusionary impression that while the NATO terror operatives attack the residence of Libyan President Col. Mu’amar Al-Qaddafi, reportedly killing his son, the Libyan forces are unable even to defend Libyan capital including the compound of their president. True, the NATO might be deadly upset that while the CIA engineered uprisings could remove Tunisian president Ali and Egyptian president Mubarak, the uprising could not remove Libyan leader and the strongman king of kings Qaddafi who remains in power as the hero of our time. Obama tries to prove a point that he a cold blooded criminal with immunity powers and his assassination attempts that are illegal under international law “or by any moral code or principle, are legal.” NATO officials anonymously denied that its forces knew Al-Qaddafi or any of his family members were in the compound at the time of the NATO terror attack. The news could be real or concocted one. But Libyan forces must shield their lands, people and resources, including oil and state installations.
The struggle of Palestinians for a free Palestine state on their own lands has been going on for years now though effectively put down by the Israeli regime occupying and controlling Palestine by state terrorism genocides and blockades. Palestinians seek an independent Palestine state to be free from Zionist crimes and brutal occupation. Peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians have been on hold since late 2010 over the issue of Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. The unity move by the Fatah and Hamas leaders is the most important development in the region in a positive sense. If the deal goes ahead, it will end the bitter hostility between the two sides and remove a significant barrier to the Palestinian campaign for statehood.
Over years of illegal occupation and blockades, Israel, backed by USA and Europe, has transformed the Gaza Strip into an enormous prison by terror attacks and blockades, inside of which nothing is prospering – economically, politically or socially. Palestinians in Gaza are the most unsecured people in the world today. In a new set up, given the economic growth in the West Bank, modest though it may be, Fatah can hope that they will be a gleaming example for their Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip.
As a result of deep conspiracy against Palestinians, Fatah and Hamas, the two major political parties are waging an interwar for supremacy with USA, Europe and Israel supporting the Fatah party, and thereby fueling the internal crisis. The popular Hamas party won the last parliamentary election in 2006 but USA-Israel-UK and Fatah rejected the popular mandate saying Hamas is a terrorist organization and provoked a civil war in Palestine. As a result, the government is restricted to Gaza Strip routing US-Abbas' forces in 2007 to seize control of the Gaza Strip, while the Fatah holds power in the occupied West Bank and get aid from west for opposing the ruling Hamas.
On 12 April 2011, a day ahead of a meeting of Western donors in Brussels, the UN has said the government in the West Bank is largely ready to govern a Palestinian state, as the Palestinian Authority (PA) has successfully built some institutions and public services required for a future state. But it warned that the PA's efforts could only go so far without resolving its conflict with Israel- which is purely an Israeli problem and has got nothing to do with Palestinians- and the division with the Hamas-governed Gaza Strip.
In trying to advance the US-Euro illegal goals by immoral means, the USA-UK terror twins have converted international law a big joke and an object of absurdity. In the post-WW-II terror climate controlled bye the Western capitalist powers, the UK-USA gang west very tactfully and brutally imposed an illegal Zionist regime on Mideast in Palestinian lands to base its terror operations on the basis of colonialism, imperialism and fascism. Till date, reinforces with western arms, drones and other terror systems, the Israeli fascist regime continues with terror attacks, provocative measures by Mossad operatives, genocides and proliferation of illegal settlements.
UN has stated that Palestinians could establish an independent state for themselves. UN says the Palestinian Authority - which has limited self-rule government in the West Bank - has built up areas such as governance, rule of law, health and social services, and infrastructure up to a level expected of a state. The PA has set itself a September deadline to be ready for statehood, with the hope of pressuring the international community to recognize a Palestinian state on all of the territory Israel occupied in 1967, including Gaza - over which PA President Mahmoud Abbas has no control. Hamas - which governs Gaza - rejects any deal that recognizes Israel.
UNSC has refused to impose any conditions to the illegal Zionist regime against its crimes in Palestine. Palestinians are particularly concerned about the prospects for the present national reconciliation move. They expect their leaders to pursue further the goals of freedom from the Israeli occupiers. Hamas has long since found peace with the idea of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, even if it prefers not to recognize a fascist Israel killing defenseless Palestinians in a sustained manner.
The USA-UK also plays a deadly mediatory role too only to further strengthen Zionist terror capability. Absence of sincerity on one’s part could spell disaster for the other, especially in international deals. West-Israel gang has time and again proved that in the devastation in Palestine. So far, America, Britain and other western powers have played a role of mediator without commitment and consistence offering enough opportunity for the illegal Zionist regime Mideast to squander the chances of peace and attack the defenseless Palestinians- and all peace deals have been flouted by the Israeli leaders in connivance with western dictators.
After 18 months of seemingly fruitless reconciliation talks, delegations from Hamas and Fatah meeting in Cairo on 26th April announced a deal to form an interim unity government with a view to holding presidential and legislative elections within a year. The deal raises the prospect of an end to the devastating political divide that has seen the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority govern the West Bank while the Islamist Hamas movement controls the Gaza Strip. Under the agreement brokered in Egypt on 26th April, an interim Palestinian government will be formed and a date fixed for elections. The accord was first reported by Egypt's intelligence service, which brokered the talks. In a statement carried by Egyptian state news agency MENA, the intelligence service said the deal was agreed by a Hamas delegation led by Moussa Abu Marzouk, deputy head of the group's politburo, and Fatah central committee member Azzam al-Ahmad. Al-Ahmad and Abu Marzouk said the agreement covered all points of contention, including forming a transitional government, security arrangements and the restructuring of the Palestine Liberation Organization to allow Hamas to join it. The general election would take place within a year and all prisoners with a non-criminal background would be released.
The agreement between Fatah and Hamas movements is an internal affair and has got nothing to do with Israel or USA or Europe. Netanyahu must choose between a just peace with the united Palestinian people and illegal settlements proliferation. Considering that even terror PM Netanyahu has repeatedly praised Abbas for his commitment to peace, it is just possible that Hamas will, following Abbas's lead, change its position in coming days. Lieberman warned that the accord could lead to the militant group's takeover of the Fatah-run West Bank. Earlier the Israeli terror PM, B. Netanyahu, warned that the PA could not have peace with both Hamas and Israel. "I hope the Palestinian Authority will make the right choice - peace with Israel," he said. It needs to be clear that such an agreement crosses a red line. Netanyahu said that Abbas could not hope to forge a peace deal with Israel if he pursued a reconciliation accord with Hamas. He fuels infighting in Palestine crisis by saying: a reconciliation deal "exposes the Palestinian Authority's weakness".
Israel and its American supporters have been happy about the “great divide” inside the tiny parts of Palestine and want to keep the Fatah-Hamas enmity intact. The unity move took them by shock. Like its protégé Israel, the unipolar USA also responded coolly, saying the government that resulted must recognize Israel and renounce violence. The US has said it will reassess aid to the Palestinian Territories should Hamas join the government. Washington considers Hamas to be a terrorist group.
The agreement, which could provide a necessary impetus in the Middle East peace process, between the Palestinian Hamas party and the pro-West Palestinian group Fatah to create a caretaker government, has not been well received in the West. West and its Israeli regime try to sabotage the agreement by their usual gimmicks. Obviously, since both Israel and USA always blocked all positive developments in favor of creating a Palestine state, any unity move in Palestinians is bad news for them. .Few in Israel and west would be surprised if the deal collapses again in a few days. Still, the agreement between the two Palestinian groups is worth the attention it is getting but it can be asserted only when the promised government is actually formed. For the Zionist prolonged terror operations, the CIA-Pentagon-Mossad combine jointly played terrorist policy targeting the defenseless Palestinians. US-backed peace efforts came to a screeching halt last autumn once Israel resumed settlement construction following the expiration of a moratorium.
Palestinians hope the move will end infighting that was politically damaging and caused hundreds of deaths. Their surprise deal, announced and brokered in Cairo, came after months of failed rounds of talks. This deal effectively will be ending a bitter split that Palestinians have been witnessing since 2007. The deal was expected to be signed next week and would be attended by Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal, who is based in Damascus.
Ruling Hamas leadership readily welcomed the peace move within. Knowing the Israeli ability of fanaticism and fascism, its power of manipulation on its military strength against Palestine weakness, the global reaction has been one of caution and reserve. PLO leader Abbas signaled that peace talks with Israel would still be possible during the term of a new interim government formed as part of a unity deal with Hamas. Abbas said the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which he heads and to which Hamas does not belong, would still be responsible for "handling politics, negotiations".
Israeli regime continues to deny the right Palestinians to exist. By considering the inhuman sufferings of Palestinians under Zionist fascist tactics like invasions, genocides and blockades, Egypt's new foreign policy experts have loosened border controls with the Gaza Strip, weakening Israel's control over the region." The months long consultations resulted in full understandings over all points of discussions, including setting up an interim agreement with specific tasks and to set a date for election. The détente between the rival Palestinian organizations could remove a heavy stone which has blocked the path to freedom between the Israelis and the Palestinians for years.
Thousands of Palestinians protested in Gaza this month, calling for reconciliation. The protests were inspired by uprisings elsewhere in the Middle East and North Africa. Further demonstrations were planned for 15 May. There are many difficult issues to resolve - such as how the two factions will share security, how Gaza and the West Bank, separated by Israeli territory, will be governed, and whether the international donors will be willing to recognize Hamas.
