Dome of Rock is established over the actual place where the Prophet has been said to go on Mairaj.
Whereas Masjid al Asqa is just the place where he and other Prophets offered Prayers.
This is what i know about these two places, but western media always shows snaps of dom of rock by saying it's Al-Aqsa, but fact is absolutely opposite to this.
